Getting A Corolla

Hello!

What a huuge community this is! Im looking to get a corolla (2000 reg). Went to look at a 1.4Gs today and was very impressed, so now im looking for one :)

I dont really know anything about toyotas, let alone cars in general. I do know that not much is likely to go wrong with a Toy so im not too worried but is there anything I should be looking out for which is specific to corollas/toyotas?

Any advice, tips or info would be much appreciated, especially if anyone knows what the alternator is rated at in the 1.4gs??

Thanks

Gareth

Hiya and welcome.

Ref buying a Toyota...... let me put it this way....

I work for one of the major motor manufacturers (not Toyota) and I get a discount on any car in their range.

My wife owns a 98' G6 which she has had from new and "will not" sell it - she loves it so much... and trust me I have tried!

Having owned and swapped around new vehicles with my employer over the last 5 years I have bitten the bullet myself - and I am now the proud owner of a new 1.6 T-Spirit. - Other benefit - I can find my car in the car park a lot easier than my collegues :D

So my thoughts - buy one!

Gareth,

I've had a 1.6GS as my company car since 2001. In that time it has done 37,000 miles with nothing to report mechanically. The only fault has been that one of the elements on the heated rear screen seems to have blown, so now instead of a clear rear screen I get a stripe of mist across the middle. I don't care, as it's going back next week and I'm buying an Avensis instead.

Personally I don't particularly like these cars, purely from a style point of view, but I had no choice on what to have as my company car, but if it's what you want then there is certainly nothing I could think of as a reason not to get one.

Mine does around 39-40mpg on a mostly urban cycle so the fuel consumption is pretty good. It could do with a bigger tank though.

If you are tall you might want to sit in one for a while to see what it's like. I'm 6'2" and I can only drive it for around 2 hours before I need to get out for a stretch.

HTH

Serviced regularly, keep my eye on the oil and thats about it for wear and tear
