:help: Hiya! I'm a new kid on the block. I have a 10 month old Celica Prem. She's beauuutiful but...when I do a hill start or pull up hill there is a funny burning smell from engine..met another celica owner last summer who said it was a fault in the plates?! Is this right..it rights itself as soon as you get going on the flat again. Also she's done 8000 miles(perfik condition) may have to sell her cos of new job..anyone any idea how much I could ask? Ta muchly..jen from Inverness.

'Hill start' - sounds like you're giving it too many revs and it's the clutch that's burning.

'Pulling up a hill' - you don't happen to have your foot resting slightly on the clutch pedal do you?

'How much should you ask?' - have a look at the autotrader website for model of similar spec and age as yours.

The clutch on the new Celica does tend to start to smell a bit easily. They don't seem to burn out any quicker though.

B) Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll bear it in mind..I don't hack it to death. I'm really quite gentle with her...based on the saying "you dont have a dog and bark yourself" I might take her into Toyota and get them to give her a drive. Many thanks for the help.

  • 1 month later...

Hi

I have a Corolla TS with the 1.8 vvtli engine (192 bhp) and I had occasionally a similar burning smell after 5K km (10k now). No other apparent problem with the clutch.

According to the local Toyota garage my clutch needs replacement!
