Anyone Changed To Leather Seats? Need Advice.

I've had some difficulty with the wiring when adding the power leather seats to my t2. In hindsight, I should have checked for a power cable before hand!

Anyone done this recently offer advice? There are two connectors on both the cloth and leather seats. The yellow one matches on both, but on the leather it has a much larger gray connector then the cloth one.

Thanks,

Mark

Looking at the wiring diagrams, I would say that the one that matches is for the airbag connectors. The one the doesn't only controls the seatbelt detection without power seats, with power seats there are the controls and the power supply. Hence the different connector, which I think you've guessed already. There may also be variations depending on if the seats are heated or not.

What to do? It may just be a case of getting a 12v supply and connecting to the right wiring in the larger connector, but with multiplex wiring things are not always that simple...

The fuse box normally has fuses 82 and 83 for the power seats (30 amps each), plus fuses 29 (20 amps) for the heated seats, if you have them. You're not going to be able power these from the cigarette lighter!

You may need to run wires direct from the Battery, with in-line fuses to replace the function of the normal fuse box. However, I would be concerned here that the function of the seat belt warning device (i.e. continuous warning even if seat belt attached...), and possibly (although unlikely) the pre-tensioners may be affected by not being connected to the car. It would be easy to find out, as with the yellow connector fitted and the engine on, are the seat belt and air-bag warnings normal?

Perhaps you could take a photo of the connector in the seat and we might be able to figure it out?

Are all those pins supplied by wires? If so, this could get complicated!
