Hi New member here.

We have two iq's one a 1.o Jan 2009 (on of the first reg in the uk) so we were told!! and mine a 1.33 in May 2010. Both of our cars have been back to the delaer twice to try and sort out a squeaky front wheel drivers side noise, very high pitched and that loud you can hear it above the radio.

no problem found on both!! happens when cold for about the first five minutes and can sometime be stopped when breaking(sometimes)

Anyone else having this type of noise???

Kev

I got my iQ in February 09 but don't have that noise!

Surely it must be due to something rubbing on the disc in some way? I would have thought brake pads, but not if it sometimes goes away and sometimes doesn't when braking.

Are you 100% sure it's the front wheel and not the rear?

See previous topic "The Squeaks......" for some info.

I have the same problem but mine is from the rear, they looked at it when it last went in for a service, they greased it and it was ok for about a week.

It only happens when the car has been sat for a while ( half a day or more)if when driving when first setting off I pull the hand break gently a few times it sorts it, but at the end of the day I shouldn't have to do that on a 12 month old car.

if it is the disc brakes and it sounds like it a smear of coppper grease behinde the pad will cure it, only a smear be careful not to get grease on the front of the pads.

Hi guys,

The squeak at the back is definitely a build up of brake dust and general dirt. It's an annoying problem to have, but unless you want to take the wheels off once a month to wire brush the residue off, it's one that is going to hang around....

I have found that if you are a bit sharper with the brakes now and then it takes a lot of the noise away.

Hi

Update re squeaky wheel..I went to dealer on Thursday, after they drove it serveral times they found out the noise was comming from rear drivers side wheel. Stripped them , cleaned and modified. It Appears to have done the job (fingers crossed) dealers are aware of this fault. Going to get our second iq done next week.

thnaks all for the suggestions.

Kev,

Some iQs have disc brakes at the rear (iQ1 and iQ2) and apparently some iQ3s have drum brakes at the rear.

Is this fault related to the disc versions or the drum versions, or has it nothing to do with the brakes and can occur on any iQ?
