Just Bought One - Looking For Some Reassurance...

Hi all - new member

After last week's severe snow event we traded in Golf for an August 2004 2.0 D4D XT3. Have talked about a 4x4 since we moved out into the wilds, but always thought it was extravagant for the couple of days a year when we were snowed in. Given the snow we had in the last couple of years - and last week when we had a huge amount - we thought different. So off to the dealer on Friday for a Rav4, older and more miles than the car we traded in against it - have I made the right decision?!

First impressions are good - great low down grunt and pull, and a bit of a change from my other car (an MX5, which as you can imagine is either (a) insanely fun in snow; or (B) lethal. Can't part with it though for the other 45 weeks of the year.)

Take it my new purchase is a reliable one? Seems to have full service history - and paperwork suggests new clutch kit and flywheel fitted about three thousand miles ago - do you think I can look forward to a happy time?

Would welcome thoughts!

Muchos Welcomos Argento,

And good luck with yer new motor....the fact it already has a new clutch and flywheel is a major plus.

Now take out the seats, and put the Mazda inside....ready for all weathers, what?

Big Kev

I've had exactly the same model for 3 years now following a passat estate. Don't regret it at all. There are bound to be some little niggles but overall it's a solid dependable thing - especially so in your case if you have already had a new clutch as that seems to be an issue. Enjoy!

Thanks Big Kev and Pogle - that's what I was hoping you'd say!

More snow forecast for next week I see...

Aye, Argento, and one member hereon has already been executed for singin'..."let it snow, let it snow, etc...."

Pesky stuff....just cost our first minister's croney pal his job....ho-hum...one down / lots to go.

Big Kev

blue,

bet a bottle of that distilled nectar to each of the mods would swing it for you.

Are you making you own snow on your motor?

Big Kev - yes I heard that the Transport Minister decided to spend more time with his family...

If severe weather events here in NI could dislodge a few useless MLA's I'd risk your ire by trying a Bing Crosby impression...

You may now return to the fold, Blue, but sounds like you'll be out playing again from Thursday according to the werra fivecast....was reminded yesterday how one can become a wee bit complacent on black ice / shaded roads.

Braked to turn left into local Hogganfield Loch, but Funnerburd Too went slightly straight on, ABS ablazing.

New M & S pants now on Christmas list....

Big Kev

Yup, no matter how good the system, if you go too far the laws of physics take over and we simply become passengers

Clearly after the run on winter tyres, there's been a run on these, as they don't know when they will be back in stock.

Sorry, this just appeals to my puerile sense of humour. I really do wish they were in stock, as then I could "E-mail someone a gift certificate featuring this item", as Amazon suggests.......but who to send it to?.....:g:

EDIT:

see Dav just beat me to it. Shucks!

Cheers Abraxas,

Yes the media in the Republic of Ireland are a little less over-regulated than ours.

Heard a DJ on one of the morning shows while driving to work a couple of weeks back talking about the Republic's debt - he said "the Government last night said they wanted a consensus view on handling the recession. I'll give them consensus - we're all fu***ed!"

At ten past nine in the morning. Nearly spilled me cornflakes all over the dashboard..
