You've got the main part to get going - the truck :D

Seriously though, before modifying anything, find out how the car handles off road, learn to use it, join other people on off-roading trips & talk to them. I used to go offroading on serious trips (several 100kms) with a stock LandCruiser FJ60. The only kit we had was a 50m tow rope & a compass.

Once you've found out whether you enjoy it or not, and what the weaknesses of the car are, then you can think about getting other kit.

Like everything, experience counts, and once you get used to offroading you'll be able to judge whether you or the car are capable. Only advice I'd give is don't be too adventurous without another car there to pull you out of trouble.

The newer toyotas already do pretty good both off and on road in stock form, so unless you plan on doing a whole lot of severe kinda stuff in a brand new truck I wouldn't get a lift kit. I'd get better tires for the terrain you plan on driving in, a brushguard with a winch, and a hi-lift jack. My dad's 2001 TRD Tacoma has a rear locker, but by the time we're in deep enough sh*t to have to use it, were already stuck. So the most important thing for you to get before offroading is a friend with a fullsize chevy to pull you out of whatever your little toyota gets into.
