Headlamps Blown

Both my front headlamp (Dip beam) bulbs blew one after the other in the past week or so. They are 55W H7 single filament.

Funny thought I.

Then found that number 2 RAV also has a blown bulb...then as I was driving this evening it was uncanny how many other cars had a blown headlamp bulb.

I wonder if its the extremely cold weather taking the bulb filament temp down to -15C then when it gets dark, the act of switching on the headlamps gives a sudden surge in the temp of the actual glass of the bulb? Reason I say this is both my bulbs had no glass left around the filament.

Any bulb manufacturing /glass properties experts out there ??

Gentlemen, gentlemen.....Bothy has come on here looking for a wee bit of advice, and all he gets is sarcasm and drivvel. Shame on you all.....what's he ever done to deserve this, on here helping his fellow Ravvers as often as he is.....?

I'm sure something will come along to put the bounce back in your bungee :).

The glass being a few degrees lower than normal, compared with the bulb filament...maybe...kinda not convinced :g:

Any moisture inside the headlamp? Would that dripping onto the bulb give a greater thermal shock and glass breakage?.....dunno :g:...still not convinced. If it is, I recommend greater ventilation through the whole of the vehicle. That's the problem with 3 doors, not enough ventilation! :P

I can explain the vehicles coming towards you with no headlamps. You are travelling so fast in No.1, that the frequency of light coming towards you has been doppler shifted out of the visible spectrum.

Its the shock wave as you go through the sound barrier,Bothy.

shcm, does that mean Bothy has fitted a warp drive and can now travel faster than light?

Bothy's always had a "warped" drive ;), but that's part of his special appeal.

The headlamps in question on number 1 are almost brand new fitments with angel eyes as sidelights and separate focus units for dip and main beam. Sorry - I should have said. And as the headlamps are the same for 3 and 5 door, as you well know, I'd expect me to say that you should behave, but then I won't comment. :crybaby:
