Auris Replacement Disc Brakes And Pads

I have been quoted by my Toyota dealer an all exclusive price (inc labour) of £240 per set of new disc brakes plus £80 per set of brake pads. So total bill front and rear would be £640. There is a local firm specilising in wheels and brakes. They have quoted for total bill front and rear discs and pads including labour £350 using the well known EBC brake manufacturer. The Auris is outside its three year warranty so wil not damage the warranty if i go elsewhere. I really want to buy the Toyota Components and Labour but it is nearly double. Any views?

Shop around.

I recently did mine.... sourced my parts (complete set of Toyota discs and pads) for £300, then got them fitted as part of my service + £40 on top. Basically £340 all in.

My advice, phone around.

You didn't say how many miles you did in your Auris but seems to be quite common changing pads and disks at one go. In my previous car disks were replaced with 4th set of pads. Shop around and get some quality stuff- cheaper and lasting longer than Toyota ones. The cheapest option is to buy disks and pads online and your local garage can fit them for max 1.5 hour labour charge. You can get pagid/ATE disks and pads (front and rear for 1.6 Bosh callipers) for about £220.

You can find best deals outside Toyota, keeping excellent levels of quality! Bosch disks and pads are not a very good stuff, they may brake cool, but durability is not much...

I'd sugest Mintex if you find them, however, EBC works just fine.

Keep in mind that Auris has two braking systems:

- Bosch (made in UK)

- EBC

You should be aware that EBC makes pads and disks for EBC system and for Bosch system. Just keep that in mind to don't make any mistake!

Took my Auris in today for a service and mot with toyot under my service contract bugger me its done 30k and quite happy to change the pads but according to them on visual inspection the disc on the front were pitted and corroded and the rear brakes were catching they wanted to charge me £440 plus find why the rear brakes were catching they forgot to mot it so Ive been to my local garage where all my other families cars go its booked in tomorrow will keep you all informed but on inspection the disks look fine the only rust is on the edge of the disk where the pad doesnt come into contact I looked at cars that had passed that day and they were all way worse than mine is this just a ploy to take every penny out of the car owner will wait and see but at the moment not a happy bunny

I will happily make a recommendation for Mtec discs & Mintex pads. Used many times & increase pedal feel with increased stopping power. Not just gut feeling, but noticed when MOT'd too.

will have a look for them but I intend having the whole lot looked at get the pads all changed and just put it through an MOT yes I know free with Toyota but at a massive cost if my favourite mechanic says the discs at 30K are u/s then they will be changed but to me they look the same as my sons car which passed the mot 2 days ago I am all in favour of safety but theres a point where a line needs to be drawn . I have the ministry of transport centre not far away from me where all the lorrys go for test and where the inspectors are based that check out the mot stations may well pay them a visit to see what they say

well all the parts arrived at the garage this morning I told them to change everything on the Toyota advisery list which according to the quote was very very expensive . the rear pads had 50% life left in them so did the front slightly less but no way at the end of their lives the only corrosion on the front disc was on the edge where the pads do not make contact no pitting or grooves I am no mechanic but would 100% believe they would have flown an mot without the work ..

Sounds like you could've saved some money in the end then Nigel. Rust on the very edge of the disc is commonplace unless they're less than a year old.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd resurrect it with some pics. Before & after type of thing, with the rusty look bettered by the use of a good scrub & some heat-resistant paint ;

Nope, not EBC. They're Mtec with Mintex pads - same make as the rears. I just chose the drilled version on the front because the 2.2 is very front-end heavy, so should benefit from the better spec. I've done 150 running in miles now & the pedal feels great. More initial bite & effortless stopping. :)

I looked at various makes but as my Auris is only a 1.4 diesel I couldnt see the point of drilled discs I have used EBC for at least 10 years no problem at all on several cars and no probs on the Auris

Hi. Glad you've bumped this topic.

Just had short service (nationwide chain). Told me the front discs were rusted and pitted and needed new disks and pads for £230 all in. Of course they are rusty. Its been bare metal for 30,000+ miles!

Anyway, I looked online to price them up. First up was Micks Garage. If you get past the name it seems a good site (anyone had parts from them?. Trouble is about 6 different specs came up for my 2010 1300cc Auris. How am I supposed to know which is which or does it not matter?. Bit confused.

Under Toyota's Fixed Price scheme a dealer should only charge you £225 fitted. So, if you are going for standard parts don't pay any more than that.

I would imagine that 3rd party parts for front discs+pads should be £100 or less.

Thanks. The national chain wants £232.60 and they weren't Toyota parts (there is a "lifetime guarantee" but not sure what this means in practice).

There's a workshop just near me and the mechanic owner has done work for me before so i'll check with him for price and if it needs doing. He usually gets me to buy the parts but the number of different makes and sizes has confused me.

Looked on EuroParts.

They have Pagid & cheaper Eicher Premium(2 yr guarantee) in stock.

Anyone used these?.

Auris is only 1300cc and 6000 miles/year so no need for expensive ones, right?.

Pagid have a good enough name, but never heard of Eicher. I wouldn't pay big money for expensive brakes on a 1.3 car of any make, especially when it's used normally i.e.. no track days or racing.

Personally I use Mintex pads & Mtec discs which I can recommend, but there are of course plenty of other choices out there.

Just to throw another curve ball in there, I had my rear discs skimmed and new genuine Toyota pads fitted by Vantage Toyota in Blackburn. And all they charged me was £120 all in. Which I thought was a bargain :-)

Hi again.

Any chance on fitting big brakes from another car make or model in a 1.4 D4-D Auris?

Or is there any supplier that has for Auris at least 4-pot calipers?

Just took the Auris out with new mtec discs and black diamond predator pads it's definitely an improvement and there is no fade the discs even when extremely hot ... Heat haze comin off them and bad smell but that what a lot of heavy braking will do ... Would be possibly consider even tracking it with this setup ...
