Door Seals Iced Up

Hi Again.

My doors keep sticking shut in the frosty conditions.

The central locking is working fine.

Is there anything I could spray on to the seals to allow them to open normally?

Is this a Rav general problem?

Thanks.

Dave.

I think a silicon lubricant spray would be ok.... used sometimes for window blinds and the likes.

As for moving to Kent - take care cos I saw the weather down there is bad.

How about using a petroleum jelly?.... I think the silicone spray is a good idea but I wonder what the freezing point would be for both suggested solutions

I don't think either freezes - but you need to consider the likelihood of getting some onto your clothing as you climb in.

Didn't someone mention that petroleum jelly can corrode rubber seals?

If the deal ever comes around again, get LIDL's car cover, the largest size which is the estate version, for £5 (honestly, I don't work for LIDLs - it's just every so often they come out with some good car bargains).

It's been -7'C recently, even down to -15'C a few weeks ago, and my T180 has been frost and ice free since getting the cover. Covers about 3/4 of the height of the RAV. Doesn't cover bonnet. 3 year warranty, says it's good down to -40'C. Six elasticated chords withn hooks anchors it to the car. Neat fit on the RAV.

Of course, you'll need somewhere to store it after you take it off; and if your car is on the street, there's always the chance it could get nicked.

hi Dave

I used to have spray bottle (330cc) of liwuid silicone that helps well. Each end of November I treat each seal on each door, bonnet, rear door. This thin silicon film is being dried remaining a ply of anti freesing/sticking on the seal rubber. Try it . Cheers/Igor

Try spraying both the seals and contact area on the door with Mr Sheen furntiture polish - it contains silicon. Just make sure both are dry first. I have used this trick for many years.

But if the ice or snow forms a bridge between the door and bodywork nothing will work other than applying heat or de-icer.:)

Spray a good amount onto a tissue and then wipe the rubber seals.
