I've noticed that the super long life coolant in my 2004 Avensis is at the 'Low' level in the expansion tank. Is it safe to top up the super long life stuff if I buy some from Toyota?

you can add + be focused on the expansion tank lid rubber gasket.

if you face with level reducing - it is more likely the cooling system is no tight.

Is it normal for the cooling system to lose a bit of coolant over time? I suppose it has been in the car for 6 years so far.

hi mate

The tightness of the system is self explained. The possible reasons of losing it are as follows:

- faulty thermostatic valve;

- overheating of the engine;

- fault of the cooling pump mechanical seal;

- leaks from the system parts like rubber hoses, hose bands.

- fault of el fans giving an overheating effect.

- cyl head gasket issue.
