Avensis Heater Problems

Just acquired a 2.0 D-4D T3-X on an 05 plate- my last one was a petrol T Spirit which expired with a dodgy head gasket blowing all the coolant out of the expansion tank.. Car takes ages to warm up and even when the gauge is up to normal it takes longer for the heater to kick any heat out. When it does get going as soon as I go round a sharp bend it starts blowing cold air. The "power heater" switch lights up but doesn't seem to do anything at all (I have tried all the combinations of settings in the handbook). The dealer I bought it off says it is normal to take a long time to warm up. With my recent experience with the T Spirit I am nervous about cooling systems - any thoughts ?

My brand new Verso 2.0 Diesel is the same, takes about 10 miles to start to give any decent amount of heat, mine does not have a power heater though so you might have an issue with that

Kingo
