Rav 4 Headlight Broken Internal Diffusor

Hi

Inside the headlight there is a small cone diffusor that sits in front of the headlight bulb. This cone diffusor is attached on a stalk/L bracket that screws to the lower bottom outside where the bulb sits.

I noticed today that this small cone diffusor had broken off at the L bracket and was rattling around inside my headlight. I managed to get it out through the hole where the bulb is inserted, however my question is can these cone pieces be bought seperately? and how are they supposed to get them into the headlight?

Any help much appreciated!! :help:

Sorry but I fail to understand how it can happen unless you have had a bump....

Most headlight units can be pulled apart one way or another :)

no bump, but had fitted some high wattage bulbs and was wandering whether this could have caused some over heating of this aluminimum cone piece causing it to fracture at the bend??

More likely to be a plastic reflector...

Have you considered a relative or neighbour to walk in front with a red flag?

I had exactly the same problem and mine is fitted with standard bulbs - it looked as if some sort of stress fracture had occurred? Only cause I could think of was vibration over a long period?

I managed to get the broken off bit out of the headlamp (the original bit is held in with a couple of screws) then fabricated a support out of some alloy to stick the two bits of the orginal thing together. Couple of rivets and some araldite held it fine and it's been OK ever since. Bit of fannying around but satisfying in the end.

Thinking about it now some headlight bulbs have some sort of coating on the end. If you use one of those type would it mean the diffuser is redundant? I don't know if the diffuser is there to assist with the pattern of light or simply to stop oncoming drivers having to look directly at the element of the bulb? If its the latter maybe you would be OK without if proper bulb fitted?
