Firstly Merry Christmas :yahoo:

And secondly, sorry for asking too many thing. Some people may not be happy with my silly question or asking too many things. I know its not the time to ask the question, but honestly I am very upset and its urgent to me.

I have cleared my ERG valve (will post photos in other thread) but during that when I removed engine cover I discovered this.

I am worried now. I have driven the car for 850 miles, oil is not reducing. But after looking at this, what should I assume?

Is my head gasket going to blow? or is there any other thing going wrong.

Please please :help: share what it could be.

Thanks in advance.

It's diesel when viewed from Ukraine :)))))))

It must not be there cos that wll criate another problem with glow plugs short cut and heating no inside the cylinder.

Check with fuel injection pipes nuts 0 whether they are tight -- but be sure you do it when engine is stopped !!!!

Cheers/Igor

Igor you are a star. Firstly thanks for quick reply.

Just wondering, do you have any photo or anything (guide) which pipes should be checked?

Cheers mate, and sorry for keeping you away from your bottle ;)

Yep, it might be diesel in which case it will smell like diesel. There certainly appears to be a regular flow from the left hand injector. On the other hand it may just be engine oil spilled when topping up or seeping from the camshaft cover. Either way you are driving a 2003 car. It won't be perfect and will have collected all sorts of grime over the years.

Be focused on the cylinder head injection pipes joints -- these nuts are in question -- it is clear vissible a diesel has been repeatedly leaked from these joints towards of glow plugs connecting with AL strap.

I would slightly release each nut + have each respective tube cone positionned inside the female cone and only after re-tight again. The result must be vissible.

Good luck

Igor

clean it off properly first - that grime could have been there for years (alot of customers/drivers completely cover the engine in oil when trying to top up! - LOL)

when clean then you can keep an eye on it and that way get a better idea if there is a leak or not :)

Thanks to all of you. Really appreciate your help.

I tried to clean it, but I cant reach the oil near the glow plus.

I do not think it is diesel, as there is no odour coming out of it. I guess it is oil and been there for long time.

I am going to have engine wash from local car wash who said he has some special checmical to clean.

But he warn me that sometime sensors can become faulty.

How true is it in case of Avensis?

I did not go for engine wash and thought first to ask about it here.

Please share you experiences.

Thanks.

1st... sam stop worrying its prob over spill oil from topping up

2nd... carefully clean the area with a degreaser ....(not power wash) using paper roll or old cloth ie bed sheet or towel etc

clean out difficult areas buy using a screwdriver to get the cloth into the difficul areas ...be careful

3rd... monitor weekly to see if it reappears....you said the oil level has maintained so ...in reality it may just be something and nothing ...ie oil overspill

Hi Mate,

Really appreciate your suggestion. Surely will do as you recommended.

I am not sure where to get degreaser, will search on internet and will wait for markets to open.

If somebody knows which degreaser is good and where to get one from, please suggest it.

Thanks again for all of you who helped.

Cheers. :D

I've used GUNK and its just as tricky to remove as the actual oil and grease.

You would be better spraying some carb cleaner on it as it will strip the oil/diesel away and any excess will dissolve off making the clean up easier.

:yahoo: Brilliant idea! I still have some carb cleaner left from EGR valve cleaner, will try that tomorrow.

Cheers mate.

Once again thanks to all of you. Igor I have checked the pipes you mentioned, opened them and then closed them again.

Davey, brilliant idea, carb cleaner worked like a charm. Thanks.

Just uploading photo and this will be my baseline, going to check it after 1 week and then after 4 weeks to compare.

Thanks to all again.

Just checked it today and no leaks.

If you compare first picture (dirty with oil) with the one at the end (clean one) and compare the injection pipe first from left, then you will notice that in clean pic, the pipe is moved toward the left (not exactly in the centre).

As Igor recommended to check the junctions which I did during cleaning process, and I think during opening and closing, I have moved first injection pipe to further left.

There is no leak, no loss of power or any other problem. Its only that 1st injection pipe is bit toward the left.

Although there is no leaks at the moment, should I be worried about that, as it is not in the centre.

or simply ignore it and enjoy the ride

Cheers.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a feedback on this topic.

Cylinder head injection pipes joint (first from the left in photo), I had open it, as was advised in this thread and tight it again.

I had washed and cleaned the engine later to compare it.

Now I checked it yesterday and first from left had little diesel in the nut. Diesel is not coming out in huge quantity but I can see bit in the nut and bit below it. All other nuts are dry except the first one from the left.

See the photos

eze4k5.jpg

And see the next to it which is clean and dry.

2ppkbq1.jpg

I have opened again and closed the first from left but still there is some diesel coming out.

what should I do?

Can it be a reason that my car engine load is 100%? (I have recently check it on OBDII interface softwares where my engine load is constantly 100% even on idle)

Since diesel is coming out (very little) and I assumer it happens when car is turned on. Are these pipes air tight? Do I have to follow any special measure before I put it back?

Is there any timing associated with these pipes?

Any help / input will be much appreciated.

Thanks.
