Hi

Is there anyone who can help me out please. I have just bought a 07 plate Avensis T Spirit D4D Estate with 39000 miles on the clock - I have only had it for 4 days but I am only averaging 26 miles per gallon on a mixture of motorway and urban driving. Does anyone have any suggestions please??

PS - I am not a boy racer!!

Many thanks

Mark

That is low so you are right to be concerned. Unfortunately this could be any number of causes.

Are the wheels all running freely? (sounds silly but brakes do bind on sometimes)

Tyres at the right pressures?

Servicing up to date & air filter in good condition?

If it is not one of the above then perhaps an exhaust gas recirculation valve fault or any number of other causes. Your local dealer should be able to diagnose the fault very quickly and relatively cheap. It is then up to you whether you wish to proceed with their repairs and costs or go elsewhere/ DIY. Good luck

Many thanks for that - it gives me something to go on - it is still under warranty so fingers crossed!!

Hi,

I drive a 2007 T180 and I have only been able to get an average of 32/33 mpg. Toyota even took me out with their specialist and we got up to nearly 44 when driving at 50 on the motorway with cruise control. It has been fully serviced etc by Toyota and I was told everything is fine all jest bang on etc but clearly it isn't. I have recently changed the air filter and that alone has given me an additional 3.5 MPG . Not great but definitely something that should have been picked up previously. I have already sounded out MR Toyota and will be speaking to them again. The report of my test run ( which I was in) said that we drove at 70 normal driving which is just not true. When they took the car out themselves and handed it back to me with 44mpg showingand reported, just driving it out of the garage car park dropped it to 42 showing that they had clearly just coasted in and used the average from that rather than a proper drive. I am not sure if they think we are stupid but this is all a little obvious for my liking.. Definitely worth changing the air filter though.
