My 1991 4-door Corolla sedan developed this problem today:

the rear brake lights and the high-mounted brake light are always on.

If the car engine is shut off and all other lights are turned off, the brake lights remain on as if I were depressing the brake pedal (the braking system works fine). None of the dashboard 'idiot' lights indicate a problem.

The only way around this problem is to disconnect the Battery cable each time I leave the car.

How to fix? :help:

There is a switch at the top of the braek pedal arm that should need adjusting so that the circuit is "open" when the pedal is at resting possition.
