Guys,

As per previous posts, i was planning on getting the Yokohama ATS tyres however getting them in 225/65/R17 is proving tricky... What would be the implications of putting 225/70/R17s on??

Thanks

Rolling radius: the distance in mm from the centre of the wheel to the edge of the tread when it's unladen.

If this changes because you've mismatched your new wheels and tyres, then your speedo will lose accuracy and the fuel consumption might go up.

The latter reason is because the manufacturer built the engine/gearbox combo for a specific rolling radius.

So you will be going from a rolling radius of 362.15mm (225/65/R17) to 373.4mm (225/70/R17) which results in a 3.11% increase in tyre circumference.

So when your speedo reads 70mph, you're actually travelling at 72.18mph (and your odometer will then be out too).

It is recommended *not* to increase the tyre circumference by more than 2.5%.

Find what tyres are available to you, and play about with the Tyre Calculator to make sure you are within 2.5% (obviously don't go for R14s or something daft  )

If you go with 70 aspect ratio tyres, your speedo will be spot on.

So your saying it would be ok?? Now i'm confused!

What's your OEM wheel size?

From what I can find, the OEM wheels are 225/60/R17.

So going to 225/70/R17 would be a 6.41% difference. Which is not recommended.

So can you clarify "spot on"?

Your speedo will be reading faster than you are moving. All cars do this.......

Stop giving BS info - it's important on a number of levels to get the correct setup of tyres.

Current size is 225/65R17.

Sounds like I should be sticking with oem sizing. Sloblock!
