Auris 2L D4D Electronic Steering

Due to bad weather, I hit a kerb full on rather hard. No visible damage but I have taken the car to a main dealer for inspection but came away feeling it was all in my mind. The symptoms are as follows -

for the first 2 or 3 miles the steering has a slight wandering feeling - just a little this way and that and really not to any great extent. It feels a little like a slight movement on an icy surface front end. This, of course, is at low speeds. It settles down and even at high speed it is stable and positive but it does feel rather odd starting from cold.

I would be very grateful if someone could throw some light on this for my dealer could not other than suggest to see how my tyres wear after 2 or 3 months.

I have informed my insurance company but can do nothing and, as you know, they don't like waiting. Please advise.

What happend. Did you check the weels, may be they are out of balance or crooked.

The steering does tighten up at speed normally (to stop you accidently changing lanes). As above get the wheels balanced and aligned and see if that sorts it :)

jack the car up and check for play left to right, up and down . I did exactly the same in icy weather and managed to bugger up the wheel bearing

I also nailed a curb with a wheel during the icy weather - I managed to knack the wheel bearing as well as putting a lovely gouge in the alloy :censor:

After that, my tracking was out - which has made the car feel a little strange. I'm due some front tyres so will be getting the two sorted at the same time.
