Rav4 Dmf Failure At 59000 Miles

I have a Rav 4 and the DMF failed.. This car has never towed a vehicle, and has been previously owned by 2 lady drivers. It is 8 years old but has done less than 10,000 miles per year and the flywheel needs repairing, the gear box has to come out also the clutch, so this has to be replaced! As the car is low mileage I wold be interested to know what forum members think.

Hi Airborne9

Welcome to the club

I'm afraid you are one of a fair few of us........nationally & internationally though, but its not all Rav4's

If you go to the Rav4 forum ,look at DMF ' pinned ' by Anchorman section, you will get loads of info there, apparently ALL modern diesel vehicles use DMF'S due to the torque involved.

It's not just a Toyota problem.

Mine went at approx 85'000 miles, others at have had thiers fail at various mileages.

Have a gander at the Rav4 forum, various threads, posts over the last year or so.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The dmf is a wider issue - Ford transits have had many problems as well !

Thanks for your input. Toyota say that the warranty has been extended to 60K or 5 yrs so can't help me. Getting it repaired elsewhere for £15000 less..!! with a reputable garage.

Thanks for your input. Toyota don't want to know, the extended warranty is now 60k not 100k or 5 yrs which ever is the earliest. Taking my business to another reputable garage for £1500 cheaper! I have received details from a forum member who had their's repaired for £600 cheaper in June than my quote was for. What'sthat all about?
