Resonance Noise When Pressing Gas Pedal On 80Km/h Or Above On Fifth Ge

I have Toyota Avensis 2005 2.0 petrol fuelled car. About 90 000km driven.

Working fine except there seems to be a resonance voice when pressing gas on speeds of about 80km/h or above (50mph or above). The noise is there upto speeds of atleast 120-140kmh, haven't tested on higher speeds. To me it sounded first like its coming from the gear change stick (Apologize for all the wrong terms, try to hang in there). I can even hear it even though radio is on, so it is not that quiet noise. I have tried to remove the top of the gear change stick (where the gear sequence is written) but that does not remove the sound. The car was at 90 000 km bigger maintenance less than month ago and they also heard the noise but were unable to locate the issue. In the repairshop they changed gearbox fluids and checked that the issue should not be in the gearbox bearings either. They told me that it would be something like 1000 euros to check more into the issue and could not give any guarantee that the car won't explode tomorrow unless they atleast know what the issue is.

So resonance noise is created only when the power is connected (pressing gas) with speeds of 80kmh or more.

I also checked from couple of places type faults, but I didn't find any info about this sort of issues.

Thanks for all replies in advance!

After reading more posts in this forum, additional information:

-vibration/resonance noise is not so loud during summertime as it is in wintertime

-the noise can be heard independent of engine temperature (running cold vs running long distances)

-I have had the car for over a year, noise has been there during the whole time

-car has been taken a good care by my parents & official Toyota dealer before that

i have a 2005 diesel avensis with a similar resonance problem, it comes and goes depending on the engine speed rather than the speed of the car, and happens mainly when the engine is de celerating when changing gear. I discovered that it was coming from the air intake pipe under the air filter. The pipe isnt a snug fit with the plastic box which houses the air filter and they vibrate against each other at certain rpm's. I cured it by removing the top of the air filter, taking the filter out and jamming a small piece of cloth between the pipe and the housing. It's not a technical solution but it works well. Every few months the cloth pops out and i have to re-insert it but it only takes a couple of minutes, and when it does come free it just drops into the bottom of the air filter box so there is no chance it could be drawn into the engine.

Sounds to me that it would not be the exactly same issue. On my cars case the sound appears _only_ when pressing gas, so there is no noise when de-celerating / not pressing gas pedal. So if there is no power transferred to the gearbox/tyres, no sound can be heard.

I will check the plastic box though, I really want to get rid of the sound or atleast be sure what causes it.
