Electric Cars

It has been announced that the Government, bless 'em, are to give £5000 towards the purchase of an electric cars. Surely this is wrong-headed because they are only of use in large connurbations and people should be encouraged to use public transport in these areas. My brother-in-law has lived in London for 40 years and has never felt the need to even learn to drive.

I agree, it does seem a little odd when everyone is being urged to use public transport... maybe it's the Governments way of admitting that public transport is generally crap - especially outside London!

Also, the 'donation' of 5k towards the cost simply increases that cost! the manufacturers will just increase their price to include the contribution.

I think I'll stick to my hybrid thankyou very much

As China has curtailed export of basic metals used in electronics and Battery production (they produce 97% of the worlds stock just now and it will be 10 years before the new mines will be able to supplement ) then prices are expected to increase substantially. So perhaps thats the reason for the new subsidy??
