Yeah, you will need a remote central locking key.

They have 2 buttons for lock and unlock on them.

I have the remote central locking keys but am wondering whether they will work with the car as I have been informed that the current key i have has a chip which the new key doesnt

There's a chip in the Yaris key that is coded to the car and releases the immobiliser when the key is close to the steering lock.

On the Mk1 Yaris (99-05) I believe that it is possible to re-code a new key to work with the car by following a procedure that is listed elsewhere on this forum. If you do a search you should find it....

My assumption is that the new "remote" keys do actually have the chip in them but need coding to the car.

If they really don't have a chip in them, then plan B would be to keep using the original key for the ignition, to cut the blade off the new remote key and just use it as a remote fob on your key ring....

I'm sure others have done this though, so expect someone else will be able to provide more info based on real experience...

Ahh, good point Alfie, I forgot you could add transponder signatures to the ECU!

I just had a thought re. the key... are you changing the lock too?

Surely the new keys won't work in the original locks... :S

Or does the kit come with blanks that you have to get cut?

Edit: Here's the link!
