it sounds like its coming from gearbox area but there are no problems with gearbox its worst when turning right i have owned the car for 12 years its the only problem i have had anyone know this problem thanks raykarl

Well as Bothy says, maybe a bearing but could also be a tooth off the diff or a CV joint. It could also be something loose and I would start by getting it on a wheel free lift and turning the wheels by hand while you get up close and listen underneath.

Oooh, the wheel bearing is the one issue I have had with my car. Damn I told a fib in my newbie introduction. I was going to say the wheel bearing but mine made an awful grinding noise. I did have a slight tapping sound once, often appeared when going around roundabouts or putting foot on the gas a bit, but it was apparently a rusty jubilee clip for the exhaust which was replaced free of charge.

The front wheel bearing on these do wear out.

Another is the central propshaft bearing - if worn could give a knock but I don't think it would matter what corner you take... when did it pass its MOT last?
