Timing Chain Vs Belt

Hi, I'm currently looking at a 114K mile 2.2 D-4D T4 on a 57 plate.

I don't seem to be able to find out if it has a belt or a chain and when or if it needs replacing.

Can anyone help, please? Thanks!

From 07 onward, D4D are chain based, you do not need to replace any timing belt.

actually its b4 2007 for chain not belt my 2006 is chain

Wish I could change my 2001 to a chain. Just had belt and water pump replaced very recently.

All the old cars 1930s 40s 50s etc had timing chains, did we not improve engines by going to timing belts? I don't think so.

We are going through a similar process now with the electronics, even the dealer cannot diagnose some problems.

Well you can forget going back to points......

Whilst chains seem like a good idea on the whole, they do suffer from other serious issues, such as tensioner failures, chains snapping due to lack of lubrication etc.

Yeah, I had a chain snap on a Ford Sierra a few years ago on the outside lane of the M25. It wasn't pretty.... :ffs:

Definately a chain on the 2 litre DOHC engine as I saw the bits leftover! lol!

All of the VVTi's are chain mate.
