Hi, Many years ago I had a Mk1 auto 3 dr as a company car! ( unusual I know but I fought hard to get it) had it nearly 5 yrs and did 175, 000 without a single fault even though I drove it hard and carried heavy motors.

My Darling Jill recently bought me late 53 plate XT3 auto for my 50th. Love it!

Can anyone tell me how I can check the EMS has been upgraded?

Had planned to fit some narrow wheels for winter...the back end is very loose on the snow.....got some cheap steel 195 freelanders with mud snow tyres, but need spacers since the 15inch rims fowl... any tips?

Keen to meet other drivers in merseyside and wales

Rich

Welcome to the club Rich.

Not sure what you mean by EMS upgrade - can you elaborate?

Hi Anchoman,

I'm not sure if this is from the era of auto gearchange troubles..its late 53 with round spots...it had a funny turn changing gears on an slip road recently. thought some had had engine management problems.

Found your article on noisy rear breaks very useful will get a shim plate for one thats missing on mine

Regards

Rich

Right Rich, I'm with you now.

The gearbox ECU would almost certainly apply to yours but it is by no means a given that it will play up. I would wait until it does before spending any money on that as it could behave faultlessly indefinitely.

As for part No's - not sure but if a third party garage has done it they often grind the fixings off so have a look at the module.

To add to this,if I may,I asked at ECU Testing if they could tell me if mine had been "flashed" and was told to contact the dealer.

So far(touch wood) there have been no problems
