Hi,

In the snow I managed to knock off the drivers side windscreen sprayer. I'm hoping I can repair it, or failing that replace it, but I can't work out how to get access behind the front / nosecone of the car. I've found some workshop manuals - but these cover just about everything except the nose of the car.

I can see a couple of possible access routes, but I'm not a mechanic, so I don't want to risk breaking one thing to fix another.

Can anybody offer any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Just a quick update. After much prodding, I've found you can't get to the washer water lines from the front - behind the headlights is welded and sealed. So, the only other route in would be behind the dashboard - so, does anybody know how to remove the dashboard?

Thanks again in advance,

Chris

Ok, so I've had some success! I can now - just - get to the hole for the washer nozzle from the inside (or at least the tip of my fingers can, but it's a start).

In case anybody else needs to know how to remove bits of dashboard:-

To remove the glove box:-

There are two screws - one beneath each hinge at the bottom of the glovebox. Remove these and the glove box drops out. You can access the passener main-beam light from here (I think).

Behind the glovebox are two more screws - removing these loosens the passenger side of the dash - but it cannot be removed (yet).

To remove the stereo:-

The bezel around the stereo and heater controls can be popped off with a screwdriver. When pulling this off, keep it quite flat - don't pull one side out too far or the last catch will get stuck.

Behind the bezel are eight screws. 3 on the passenger (Right hand drive) side are three remove all of these. Between the heater and the stereo are three. Remove the top and bottom. The middle seems to be an earth wire. I left this alone. On the drivers side of the heater controls are two - remove these. The heater control sort of covers the stereo, so you have to unscrew both to remove the stereo.

Drivers side lower steering column cover:-

There are three screws at the bottom of this, two between the column and the door, one on the other side. After removing these the lover cover un-clipped. At this point I can now reach up and, just about, get the the washer nozzle.

It's dark now, so I'm going to stop. I'll post more updates as I make progress.

As always, any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Quick update - instrument block removed, and I can see the water for the washer - but not the pipe it comes from. I'll post notes later.

Last update. Could not access through the dashboard, so I'm giving up and handing over to the pros.*sigh*.

Just a couple of quick points. Removing sections of the dash was easier than I thought - takes a few minutes when you know what (and where) to look.

The thing I thought was a headlight behind the glove box is, in fact, the heater fan.

Ho hum.

Chris
