Gen 7 Celica - Anti Coolant Keeps Needing To Top Up

Right,

Recently when parked at traffic lights or at a standstill, my engine is steaming. I'm guessing my coolant is leaking cause i'm keep needing to top this up.

I've had a nosey in the engine but cant spot no obvious leaks. What am I best doing?

How much will this cost etc....

Any help on this would be wicked. Thanks

I'd find a Garage with a Lift, ask them to remove the under car plastics so the leak can be located. Cost depends on whether it's a leaking Hose, or something more expensive like a Water Pump or Radiator. I'd recommend that only Toyota Long Life Coolant be used, and bleeding the system of air afterwards can be a PITA.

I had a slight leak = water pump fitted at my local garage = £175 inc VAT.

If there is a noise from the engine and leaking coolant I would bet it is the water pump bearing worn allowing the rotor to move in the shaft therefore wearing the seal.

I would not drive it much until sorted as if it is the pump or even the tensioner pulley, if it gives up it will overheat. Also if the tensioner fails then the belt (which is braided with steel) will whip around your engine like a chainsaw!

Regards,

Dave
