All 07+ Yaris Sr Drivers!

Hi guys

Iv been thinking for a while now of changing for yaris SR the 1.8 petrol, im looking at goin for a test drive in the next couple of weeks so can ye tell me please what to expect from the car? i would hazard a guess that they are quick?.....also with the way fuels gone up a bit its amild concern so what kind of milage do ye get for your money? please give your view it would really help set my mind at rest.

They aren't quick, slower than a Mini Cooper, Swift Sport etc... only 1.5 seconds quicker from 0-60 than the 1.3 SR. I get 38-40MPG and the tax is £180 per year, I love mine though

My wife's just got a Decuma Grey 2007 1.8SR. Its a great little car, decent suspension, alloys and spoilers look good. Had a 2.0 Civic type S 160bhp before which is recorded as 0-60 in 8.2, the Yaris is 9.0, but imo the Yaris is as quick. In fact the Civic was geared too high, so it is nice to drive a car which is geared lower (maybe a bit too low if you do lots of motorways). Problems - the fly by wire throttle seems to 'blip' when you depress the clutch pedal - some people have an issue with this, dosn't bother me tho, indicator 'tick' is too quiet, parcel shelf is C**P. People have said that they can use a lot of oil - we haven't encountered that yet. So far I have no regrets whatsoever. Test drove a 1.3 and it's a very good car, if anything more polished than the 1.8 - but dosn't look as good.

Hahaha Mate it would be a hell of alot quicker than my little Aygo I think! thats fairly decent mpg, could you relate that to how many miles you get from the tank and how much it is to fill her up please? I can never relate mpg to anything :)

Thats cool thanks very much I preferr lower geared cars as I dont do alot of motorway driving so they seem more fun. I do agree the 1.8 looks like a really nice car its one of the main things attracting to it, Im really looking forward to having a test drive some weekend :)

Consumption varies, 38 to 40 is easy to achieve on a run but city driving drags it down to around 33 to 35. And I don't try to leave everyone at the lights, well not all the time :)

The only downside I find is that the steering lock is limited due to the wide tyres not having enough room to move in the arches. I find I need plenty of space, unlike my wifes car which can be put any where I want to. Even Toyota omits the turning circle from the brochure !.

Buy it, you will enjoy it !!

Cool cheers dude it does sound like a lot of fun, turning circle is a small price to pay for having nice cornering tyres on a car.

I bought one about 3 weeks ago gave my son the son my 08 1.3 sr witch i loved but imo the 1.8 is even better,mpg around town is 35 so not to bad driving it to manchester tommrrow so will find out what its like on a run enjoy your road test.

I love mine to its a late '09 T-Sport 1.8 with the 6 speed gearbox and it needs about 1liter petrol each 13km.

It fun to drive specialy when you put the pedal to the metal ;)

Oh my god, the turning circle really is the worst thing about the car, it hits full lock sometimes just going around sharp corners!

As far as I know none of the UK ones are 6-speed, the EU ones are because they have the facelift model...which unfortunately is much nicer than the one we got :(

Went on a test drive on saterday, really love the yaris SR, just a matter of finding the right one for the right money now, little bit disappointed with what they offered for my Aygo they said its worth less as I brought it over from Ireland with me but dont see how it makes much odds really.

Hi rob my son is indeed a lucky boy had a bit of a head on with a mini1 in the icy weather, ripped the engine out of his 51 plate yaris only good bit of the car left was the bit he was sitting in thankfully,anyway the best mpg i got from my 1.8 was 41.9 but the roads were pretty clear so gave it good (road test)if you know what i mean and was pleasntly surprised love it even more now :)cheers Les 14

Oh dear, is he alright? thats good to hear thanks, im keeping my eye out now for a 1.8 but unfortunatly the plan might be delayed slightly as my insurance have said they will not match my other quotes not even close, to change over the policy will cost double what iv been quoted by others and if i cancel with them then i loose the no claims that was building over the year, its a tuff choice but i think the sensible thing to do is to wait for a couple more months at least until its near the end of the policy and check how much they want to charge me if i change then.

If i was tto change over my current policy to the yaris then it would be an etra £1500 for the whole year, thats on top of the £800 they rape me for anyways(which I think is a joke for me having 3 years no claims and never having had any points), iv found several quotes for insuring the yaris fully comp for under £800. I think sensibly I should hold out until the policy is up.

I'm 25 and paying £900 for my 08 Yaris with no NCB at all, and a fairly new licence to boot. Just being slightly older makes things so much cheaper, the under-25s seem to just get hit hard.

As for young drivers' insurance, I have read that Adrian Flux do try to do things for young drivers, especially those with modified cars.
