Rav4 2006 - Keyless System - How It Works?

Guys,

How exactly works the keyless system in RAV4 2006 ?

I'm not talking about opening/closing doors and starting the engine.

The question is - if i start the car and leave the key outside - how far can i drive without the key? Or the car will not stop till manual switching off - and i will get only message and beeper - no key ?

regards

Tomek

Hi

You will continually get a message displayed stating that it cannot find a key along with an irrating bleep so u wont get too far

so the car will not stop?

so when the car is running and no one is inside - anyone can steal it?

annoying message and beeping noise would be not an issue for a thief...

if it is so...... then this system is really stupid... it would be really easy for designers just to make some software in ECU which will switch off the car after some minutes when there is no key .

If any car is running and no one inside it then it too can be stolen, but that car would haveto have the key in it so that it could be started in the first place. But if some thief took your Rav and you had the key on you once he stopped the engine he would not be able to start it again but the other car that had the key in the ignition could be started again. If you get out of your Rav and had the key on you as soon as you shut the door you would get a loud beeping outside the car warning you of this.It took me a while to get used to it but I think its great now.I cant start my Rav unless the fob is inside the car if I leave it outside the car I just get the warning key not found coming up on the dash.

I was told that if it cannot detect the key and is driven then it won't rev so would only be able to crawl away. Not tested this so it could be more car salesman "male bovine faeces".
