And all the "Citroen means lemon jokes"... the C1 is the *same* car as the Aygo, remember! Half of the bits in our Aygos are Citroen-sourced - don't forget that! The air vents are Peugeot-Citroen, for example, the seats are Peugeot-Citroen sourced, the door-handles are Peugeot-Citroen, to name just a few components. Citroen are doing well these days in terms of reliability etc - and you only have to sit in a DS3 to see how far quality has come. So before we start knocking Citroen, just remember that if it weren't for them and Peugeot, the Aygo wouldn't exist, and vice versa.

Yes, but according to the information in this post... Toyota's are the ones that are quality checked BEFORE delivery to customers which is why Toyota won't be re-calling! :) well done Toyota!

Yeah but that's more to do with their attention to detail/customer service, which is streets ahead of what Peugeot and Citroen generally offer at their dealerships (though there are some exceptions). Still the same parts... just different levels of care!

Tut, tut, and I thought you scousers had a sense of humour :crybaby:

Haha, oh we most definitely do B) although I'm from the "posh side of the water" (The Wirral Peninsula)... so I'm not quite as scouse as the Liverpudlians! But I can easily slip into scouse mode :P

VOSA reply to Kingo's posting which I sent to them. It would seem Toyota are putting up a smoke screen to divert attention from leaking Aygos! I wonder how their system of control misses the causes of the leaks.

Before I turn to your enquiry, it may be helpful if I explain the role of

VOSA in regards to investigating vehicle safety defects. VOSA

investigates, in conjunction with the relevant producer, incidences whereby

failure of a vehicle or its component systems are alleged to be

attributable to design or construction deficiencies. In addition VOSA is

responsible for the supervision and monitoring of the UK Recall Scheme as

it applies in the automotive sector.

This work is carried out under the terms of a Code of Practice, which is an

agreement between the Department for Transport and the Trade Associations

representing vehicle and component producers, and is supported by the

General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

A ‘safety defect’ is defined in the Code as “a feature of design or

construction liable to cause significant risk of personal injury or death”.

Defects that can be identified during normal routine maintenance, including

servicing and driver checks, handling characteristics or noise emitted by

the vehicle, which can warn the driver of the problem, are not normally

classified as safety issue under the terms of the Code.

VOSA is not currently aware of any safety issues with the vehicle models

you have stated. I have therefore surmised that the issue is not safety

related, so the manufacturers are not required to inform VOSA of the issue.

Under the Code of Practice and GPSR, manufacturers are required to inform

the competent authority of any safety issues/recalls as soon as they become

aware of them. I believe the issue is a reliability/product enhancement

issue and not one VOSA would deal with.

As it does not appear to be a safety issue, rather than going through the VOSA recall process, PSA will probably deal with problem vehicles via a service bulletin - where vehicles are inspected at their next service and parts replaced as and when needed.

The question and answer extract that Kingo referred to in his post, is probably intended for advising customers who may have heard about rectification on 107's and C1's, and ask about their Aygo.

"What was the condition?

On certain vehicles, there might have been a material thickness deviation in the right

hand front side member. In the worst case there might be a crack in the right hand front

side member."

It would have been interesting to know how Toyota dealt with the above defects in their inspection process.

Hardly a question of replacing parts!

Hardly a question of replacing parts!

After doing a quick web search, parts like the Aygo front right hand side member are available from salvage, etc. So, depending on the severity of the fault, presumably the front right hand side member can be replaced - whether or not the process to replace the part is complex.

"The PSA group have launched a recall for Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 models"

There is no media cover on this. Has partsking got factual proof of this recall?

Sorry for the late reply, Ive been working away at the NEC all week

The original information I posted up came from a TGB communication to assure Aygo owners that IF the media picked up on a PSA recall, then they could be assured the Aygo was NOT affected. Obviously Toyota and PSA have different quality control measures in place, otherwise this conversation wouldnt be happening

Others have already mentioned the VOSA situation, a recall only has to be passed to VOSA if it is safety critical

Kingo
