Any Point In Using V Power Diesel Over Ordinary Diesel?

Hello! I have a Yaris 58 plate D4D and have been putting only V Power diesel in it for the last 12 months. Am I wasting my money?

Yep - probably.

I've tried the V-Power diesel in my A3 for a few months at a time on several occasions over the past five years. Compared to "ordinary" Shell at the time, it did give slightly better mpg but not enough to cover the extra cost.

I still put a tankful through now and then because its got better cleaning agents, so I assume it will give the injectors a good clean through.

Before Shell changed their standard fuel recently, you could tell a difference when you put the vPower in - it ran a bit unevenly until the ECU adjusted for the different fuel, so it was definately different - however since Shell changed their standard fuel, I now notice no difference when I switch fuels (so I've half a suspecion that the differences are now less than they were) and actually, I got less MPG on my last tank of V Power than I get with the new standard Shell diesel.

So I won't be going out of my way to buy VPower diesel any more - I'll stick with the new standard shell product...

I have never found it any better when the temps are low to be honest.

Might be better in the spring/summer months though....

Made zero difference to my Yaris...

Made the engine run smoother, loss of torque/power at low revs but you get it all back at higher revs.

RAV4Len is right that the difference vs. normal diesel is a lot less noticeable in winter tho'.

I will say that if you have been using it constantly, your engine will be much cleaner than ours!

Supposedly it also helps reduce the likelihood of EGR problems, esp. if you're doing lots of town driving and not much motorway driving.

My main turnoff used to be that V-Power would push me over that £50/tank mark but, strangely, since a normal tank will now be more than that, I think I'll care less now! (In reality it's only a few quid more anyway...!)

I used to put this into my diesel Alfa:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_370465_langId_-1_categoryId_165750

I found it gave a much more noticeable improvement in smoothness and response. Also kept the EGR valve in tip top condition

Thanks for the replies! I'll take the info on board for next time I need to fill up!

Im new to this site and am just finding my feet on it. Its good to know that there is somewhere I can come to when Ive got an issue and need advice.

Am really pleased with my Yaris - had it for 12 months now. I exchanged it for a 2.8 Vectra Elite which did the grand total of 16 miles to the gallon and am now getting 52 miles around town - bit of a difference!

'tis a lovely car :D

Glad I listened to my mate and went for the diesel one too; So cheap to run but still pulls when I want it to!

Never would have believed a diesel engined car could be this good until I got mine!

Now if only they made a diesel-electric hybrid version... ;)
