Hi Guys

I'm Ben !! I hope some of you can give me some advice please. Currently were a two car household with no kids etc. We have a Aygo Blue and a Skoda Fabia TSi. I love being in the Aygo (although its the girlfriends car) but i do love the Fabia. The Fabia was purchased as my mileage was less than 2 a day normally so fuel consumption really wasn't a big issue. Ive since changed were i work and my mileage is now about 60 a day and the average fuel consumption of the fabia is really starting to hurt my pocket (about 42mpg on a motorway). We never seem to fill the Aygo it just keeps going and going. Now i'm wondering if anyone on here has actually worked out their mpg on one ?

I'm tempted to change the Fabia for an Aygo Go (the one with sat nav) as ive been quoted for a 3rd in white £8475 on the road. What are your opinions on this and do you think the move would be sensible and cost effective?

Oh and manual or auto ?

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben, another ex Skoda driver here and welcome :)

If economy is high on your list then go for a manual.....

id be interested to see whats the actual real world difference between the aygo manual and auto as book there 1mpg

I don't know if this helps, but I've been keeping a spreadsheet since I brought my Aygo Blue (5dr Manual, about 10 months ago) and on average now the MPG has been 59, with the lowest at 52 and highest at 64. That is commuting to work on a 50 mile round trip at an average speed of 50-60mph. Hope this helps?

awesome thanks. It just feels like we get so much more than 59 out of the blue. I'd guessed at circa 70. I'll have to start keeping track. I'm just concerned about losing some of the luxury's in the fabia

Hi

Im new here, but i drive the new Aygo Go and i must admit its ideal. I get at least over 60mpg and i am very heavy footed. But the new spec is very good. its so cheap to run but you get bluetooth, ipod connection and sat nav. oo and new alloys and alloy wheels.

i must admit i love it.and the 5 years warranty and if you go on low apr finance you get 3 years free servicing which works out more expensive than the interest you pay so it was a good deal and im very happy.

My 2007 C1 did 61mpg, currently my new Aygo is doing 55mpg but this will probably improve. My journey is through country lanes with little traffic or lights so economy will always be good. The prices for the Go seems good, interest free? I paid £9,400 for an Aygo Black with Air Con/Spolier and they offered interest free.

If you've got an iPhone or iPod Touch, there's an App called Road Trip (and a free one called Road Trip Lite) which works it all out for you - you whack in the figures, and it calculates all sorts! Fuel economy, total petrol across the year, total costs etc etc etc. Very handy app indeed and highly recommended! I seem to get around 56 from mine doing a 30-mile round trip (mostly motorway) but my speed is probably a bit more inconsistent (I'm sometimes running late!).

Awesome guys. Well ive done some rough calcs and the aygo will be approximately £40 a month cheaper on petrol than the fabia.

Do any of you guys have the auto here ? As this is really tempting.

HI BEN GO FOR A THREE YEAR OLD AYGO AS THE ENGINE WILL HAVE BEEN NICELY RUN IN. FUEL CONSUMPTION IS ABOUT 67 MILES TO THE GALLON ON A MOTORWAY CRUISE AT 75 MPH. I USED TO DO WOLVERHAMPTON TO WESTON SUPER MARE IN ABOUT AN HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES.GET A GOOD STEREO FITTED AS THE AYGO IS NOISY BUT DRIVE HER HARD AND HIGH REVS UNTIL ABOUT 75 80 MPH SLOWLY TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELORATOR AND SHE WILL CRUISE NICELY ABOUT 72-75.BY THE WAY A THREE YEAR OLD CAR IS FAR CHEAPER TOO. GOOD LUCK MATE

I use this app on my ipad, Wifes Aygo takes me to work on narrow windey country lanes mostly 60mph and her local shopping trips and road trip lite shows us averaging 51-58 mpg - we're gonna use it instead of my Prius this weekend on a longish trip 75 miles each way on the m25' so it will be interesting to see what the next fill up, next week, will show as the average this time!

From our experience at higher motorway speeds the Aygo does mid 40s - drop the speed to 55-60mph and it will do 60+ mpg. OP Remember you only save your £40 a month on fuel if the cost to change is nil.

Thanks guys.

Yeh the cost to change is next to nothing. I understand about the three year old aygo but it'll be new im afraid as i want to Go.

don't forget the 20 quid a year RFL !!

And possibly cheaper insurance, too.

When buying my car (2nd hand - not actually picked it up yet!), I realised I could go over my original car budget and get a newer Aygo for basically the same price as an older different car, by factoring in RFL and Insurance (and fuel, of course).

Manual or Auto?

Mine's Auto, my Wife's is manual.

I find the throttle respose is very different.

Pressing the throttle in my wife's gives instant response and I

find myself driving it in a more enthusiastic manner.

When I get back in my auto (MMT), you seem to have to press the throttle

a lot further for the same result.

So......mine regularly gets 4-5 mpg more, purely because it is a more relaxing drive.

The MMT seems to make you a little more laid back.

On the other hand, it will cost you more to purchase.

Depends if you are enthusiastic about driving and how long you intend to keep your Aygo

whether you will get the MMT money back.

I've not really helped your decision here, sorry.

I think it really depends more on what you prefer driving, manual or auto.

Ian.

I have a 107, same MMT box as Aygo, and depending on how you drive I doubt if there will be any difference in fuel consumption than a manual. Use of aircon makes a noticeable difference.

Our Aygo is the mmt, wife drives it as an auto, I drive it as a manual! Best of both worlds

thanks again for the posts guys. The RFL is £90 on the skoda so thats a £70 saving as well. My insurance also drops from £330 to £175 so huge % saving there as well.

Think im gonna make the jump tomorrow to the aygo go. Can get some spanking deals on the blue but the extra toys of the Go are drawing me towards that.

On average how many miles do you guys get out of a tank ?

Dunno, i normally fill up when it's half full at around 250/280 miles...

Our current one (08 Aygo+) gets 450-500 miles out of full tank, but that's a lot of travelling up dual carriageways to university and back at a steady 60mph.

benwiddowson, don't forget you can get a lot more than this. I get 430 miles minimum out of a tank, and even then I think I've probably got a good few miles left. The most I've ever managed is 485 miles.

i normally fill up at 400 ish, but i have pushed it to 450 once, and it still hadn't beeped...
