Bluetooth Help On '08 4.3

Just after a hopefully quick answer...

Whereabouts is the bluetooth microphone for hands-free? The handbook and the separate bluetooth guide are virtually (totally?) useless in helping me.

Can anyone describe what I should be looking for and where?

Thanks in advance. :)

Howdy Soots,

Does your car have the mic. fitted as standard, or was it fitted as an option? To the best of my knowledge, most Ravs ye need to either specify at time of order, or do what I did and purchase as an add on.....?

One of these Yeti from the high Derbyshire hills fitted it for me, and to him, it was a doddle.(dawdle?)

You should contactify him, as he had one for sale, and was fitting it for the buyer at a very reasonable price.(Anchorman)

If I am wrong, again, well....what do you expect ???

Big Kev

For the T180, the microphone is built-in between the central interior lights in the car's ceiling.

I have been able to set up the bluetooth OK and the car "talks to me" when I turn on the ignition and recognizes my phone (basic Nokia handset). I assumed the microphone was in the overhead console (as it was in my Leon) but - and here is the big no-no - when I got the car there was a naff cheap black plastic thing stuck onto the overhead console with double-sided tape. I asked the dealer what it was and they said it was something fitted for the previous owner (Mobility) and was most probably to do with their disability...

So at the weekend I went into dork-brain mode and cut the wires off leading to this ugly thing and removed it - and now appear to be unable to make calls using bluetooth... :crybaby:

I still have the cheap naff looking black plastic thing - I am wondering if this was fitted by the supplying dealer to overcome the problems with the OEM bluetooth microphone that seem to be well documented amongst the Mr T forums...? Looks like I may well have to get out my soldering iron...

Hi Kev,

As it came with the Mr T. bluetooth book and I set it up using the destructions in that, I'm assuming it must have been fitted as an option on ordering...?

Next question will be to find out how to open up / remove the overhead console to get at the wires... :help:

Hi there.

Bad news, I think. That "cheap looking thing" is the bluetooth mic on my 0'7 XTR. Sorry. My one has had the bluetooth module added to it by the dealers.

XTR spec was uprgraded in 2008. Besides the bluetooth, I think the other differences were cruise control & 6-spoke alloys as standard on new ones. I haven't seen one of the "new" ones myself so I don't know if it had a "better" integrated solution than the one I have (with cheap stick-on mic).

So, your one may be either the one of the old ones with retrofitted BT or the new one (and the method hasn't changed). I would highly doubt that the in-built mic was replaced by the stick-on one. So, unfortunately, looks like you're a-solderin' :(

Hope that helps...

Thanks for that - I guessed I had done a huge boo-boo. Oh well, another job to do... Mind you, I might change it for a better looking mic that looks more the part and doesn't use sticky-tape to hold it in place. Motto: never trust a car salesman!

Sooty.....Look at "Technical Info Hints and Tips / 4.3 Section / Fit Photochromic Mirror" and Anchorman's photos will guide you through the removal of light console. I did it and broke nothing....my finest hour.

The standard mike, at least on my T180, is very poor I wonder if someone had fitted a better one using the existing wires? I find if you do not speak directly to the mike the other end of the conversation cannot hear you very well. My old Ford Sierra 4x4 had a proper car phone with a mike above the windscreen and gave very clear speech - pity Toyota cannot provide a better mike and I would pay for it !!

As for the xt5... by the sunroof controls.

Have you tried other phones?

My T180's connection is crystal clear, and I think it's excellent (although there are too many steps in making a call).

I have an HTC TYTN II mobile phone, and I'm wondering whether it's the phone that's giving you problems?

My XTR has the wee grill between the lamps and sunroof controls, so I guess this is where the mic did / should go... After I've took the console out I'll have a nosey around.

Yes - three wee slots.

Aha....therin may lie the problem, my pupils....if ye stick the mic. behind that wee grille, will it not mufflicate the spoken word? Anchorman surface mounted mine neatly with micro-velcro on the light console we are referring to, and it has been complimented on its clarity. (It is an official Toyota kiy BTW.)

Marsky.....rise from thy knees....there is no need for such supplicationment.

The 2008 XT-Rs had the bluetooth kit fitted at the import centre. I'm afraid you snipped it

Yup, that's how mine was done.

Just had a look at that 'wee grille' and, on mine at least, it's not a grille at all. The slots appear to be cosmetic in that they are not clear through

Push the phone button on the wheel and then the name of the speed dial on the screen? Or is the T180 different to the xt5?

2 steps, 3 if its on the next screen of speed dials...

I thought the phone system was really good, sat nav too. Much better than the mazda one and BMW ones i've used.

I have an iPhone and it pairs suprisingly well (for an Apple product). It even plays the specific ring tone for the caller throught the car Speakers when a call comes in!

The voice activated dialling.

Every time you step through the process, it'll ask you to confirm if the step has been carried out correctly.

But the number of steps could be shortened.
