Help Auto Sensing Wipers

My Auris T Spirit has auto rain sensing wipers. However the dont seem able to sense rain and therefore are useless.

Is it possible to adjust these so they do work?

or

Can you instal a conventional intermittent switch to replace this useless device?

Silly question, but have you adjusted the sensitivity dial on the steering column (handbook will show you). It worked for me.(SR180 I assume it's the same)
