Avenisis Service

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Avensis tourer 2.0 VVT-I and would like some info on your experience of costs of servicing.

The car is up for a 100K service soon. I thought this would be a pretty standard 20K full service but have been told this is a special service at 100k where they take the wheels off and do an inspection etc etc. I have been quoted £300 inc VAT by the dealership. I spoke to the dealership who told me that the items change are...

Coolant change

Engine oil change

New oil filter

Brake fluid (which I am paying an extra £30 to have done - so total £330 inc vat)

Items inspected (then charged extra for if replacements are needed) include...

Air filter

Auto Trasmission fluid.

Brake fluid

Fuel filter

I would really appreciate any comments on the following....

1) Does £300 sound about right for this kind of a service?

2) Is a 100K service any different to a 20K service because the Service & Warranty manual doesn't seem to say that there is such a thing as a 100k service. 3) Anyone else had their wheels taken off during a 100k service?

Not keen on paying over the odds for work that might not be neccessary.

Many thanks

Avenger.

Hi mate, it sounds like an awful lot of money to me! What "Extra"do they intend to do when they take the wheels off, your car doesn't even need the wheels taken off to pass it's MOT! Ask them to explain what they going to do after taking the wheels off ( I know what I would do) and charging you at least £100.00 more. By the way I would want a fuel filter and air filter fitting on a 20k service included not just "checked"!

Regards Pete.

Check with another dealer.... if they give you the same comments then you know you're not being ripped off....

Thanks fellas, Tried to check with another dealer but they flatly refused to quote me anything without me giving my full registration and details etc. If I gave those hey presto they would see I am booked in for a service at the other dealer and would quote me the same price as their system has. Good idea to call and to ask what is done at 100k service at another dealership though. I saw another thread where people were saying they got 20K services for under £200 so need to explore this further.

Yes about the taking the wheels off, apparently they can do something called a 'health and safety inspection' and they do this every two years. Not sure if this is it. But for an extra £100 - nay thanks!

Went to another dealer and found out price and content of service and they did look my records up so probably saw I had alread been quoted nearly £300. Apparently it is a 20K service with a couple of extra bits and bobs. Quote is the same from the other dealer.

What is changed...

Oil, oil filter, gasket drain plug change, brake fluid (this was charged as an extra - £30 at other dealership!).

Checks

Wheels are taken off, brakes are cleaned, adjusted and refitted.

Check tyre pressure, lights, steering, coolant levels, transm. fluid levels, ball joints, clutch, fuel lines, exhaust, Battery in key fob (£10 each if need replacement!)

Not changed - Fuel and air filter.

2 - 2 and a quarter hours of labour.

Still worried. A bit of oil, a few small parts and a flash light inspection. That is a stink load of money.

Do it yourself if you are Ok with that or take it to a local VAT registered garage and get your book stamped, also ask them to use genuine parts if possible.

A lot of the things Toyota are quoting you are just visual checks anyway and charging the earth for the pleasure.

Best of luck anyway ..... Pete.

Seems hellish expensive to me and you are clearly not happy with the price so shop around locally and see what you can get.
