OK, as much as I now love my RAV4, I have decided I would like a leather re-trim.

Also, how easy would it be to go the heated route?

What cost am I looking at?

These aren't heated:LINK but I paid £1200 as an option to have similar fitted to my 4.3 when new.

There are various seat heating kits available which you could fit prior to fixing seats into vehicle..........

I fitted Leather Seat covers to my RAV4 (same model as yours) and decided at the same time to go down the Heated route and highly recommend it.

1) Leather Seats - In my case I bought some aftermarket RAV4 leather kits from eBay for £75 for full set. Bit of a Bargain and unlikely to be seen again I think! Seller used to import top spec RAV4 VXs from Denmark (that had no leather there for some reason) and retrim the seats and resell - back in the days when that used to be a big thing. He found 10 sets in his warehouse years later doing a clearout and needed shot.

Anyway - enough of history .... so eBay is one source for Leather Seat covers - or even complete leather interior including the physical seats themeselves. Or for around £1,200 or so, could get a complete custom leather retrim with your own colour combinations and stitching.

2) Heated Seats - while the seats covers are off, it is a perfect time to fit heated seat pads.

The official Toyota kits are around £600 a seat If I recall right. I bought a set from an eBay trader made by WASCO ata cost of £60 - two seat pads, 2 back pads, all wiring and a pair of 2 position switiches (for High and Low settings).

Easiest to fit while the seats are out the car for cable routing, etc and they would come out anyway for the retrim, so no hassles there really.

I found it very easy to install them and also added some bi-colour LEDS (£3 for LEDs plus resistors) so the switch illuminated amber on Low and Red on High.

I think there may be some pics I posted of my install on the forum?

One last comment - if your car has side airbags on the seat, make sure the seat covers are compatible with that and the retrimmers make any appropriate adjustments in that area (usually they weaken the leather by scraping it and/or use a weaker thread to allow the air bag to rip through correctly)

I have heated seats in my current car and really appreciate them in this weather!

Thanks for the helpful replies/links and PM's chaps, even you Del

I understand there is a place in York that do re-trimming so might pay them a visit :)

Hoovie,

GREAT to see you back again  Are these the seat heaters that you bought : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MSH50-Waeco-Heated-Car-Seat-Kit-Driver-%26-Passenger-Seat_W0QQitemZ350193078030QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=198134038005&rvr_id=198134038005&cguid=8474807e12d0a47a26e7e797ffe6e9cc

They look pretty good to me - I'm tempted to put some in the wifes Pug.

I think the following might be nearer for you:

A.S Pickering Ltd

7, Springfield Place, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 3EZ

Very close to the Bradford City Ground and produce some stunning work. I have no connection with them other than as a well satisfied customer.

Would it be worth looking for an xt4/5 interior at a scrap yard? Rare I know but not impossible.

Hi - Thanks :)

Yup- they look the same ones. Impressed with what I got - Decent quality bound manual (don't really need one, but a sign of a quality product I tend to think), good cabling, switches etc. Kept the bum and back nice and warm.

Worth the effort to install I reckon

Try roofbox.co.uk for leather seat covers. I bought a pair from them a few years ago and they are very good. £79.95 each or a pair for £150 and they do rear seat leather covers as well. The front seats are in 2 pieces and have facility for airbags as well, worth a look.
