Avensis T180 Diesel Estate

Hi all,

Newbie here, after runnng an alfa romeo for a wife I am lookng for a reliable(!) estate to replace it with and would love some feedback on potential roblems with the T180 diesel estate? I am going to look at a 56 plate with 70,000 for £6295.

Hiya Ross. Welcome to the forum... Is this the one advertised on eBay in Silver with red painted brake calipers by any chance? I've got a T-180 estate and one of the things you have to be aware about is a problem with over heating which leads to GASKET FAIL and a new engine like mine had.

Try and find one thats had its engine replaced by Toyota under warranty. Either a "short" or better still a "full" engine change. Avensis suffer from rust spots on the doors where the glass closes! So take a good look at the doors.

The EGR valves need to be cleaned out about 10000 miles or so. You can buy a new one off eBay for £130 with pipe if you take a look about. These normaly cost £300 from the main dealer.

Don't use anyother oil than Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 (Castrol EDGE is not upto spec) in the engine! or you'll damage the D-CAT on them. The oil spec has to be "C2" so look out for that on the can. Amsoil do a geat one, but it cost £60 for the pot. So I'd get on eBay where you can get 10ltr for £60 delivered.
