hi everyone.

i know this subject has been discussed before but the vat hike has made a difference to earlier prices.

my car is a t spirit 1.6 vvti.its a 2007 reg in 2008.going in monday for mot and 30000 service, though its only done 23500 odd miles.this i a minor service.got a letter from then for a service plan, starting at 40000 mile service then a 50000 mile then again a 60000.this is then 2 major services and 1 minor service.the intial cost is £617.85.but they will pay the first £25 .00.so bringing it down to £592.85.when i go in on monday i will tell them i want to provide the oil myself.they use Castrol, but i like Mobil and i purchased 3 cans of esp when asda had it on special offer at £32 a 5 ltr can.this ill be cheaper than they charge for oil.as i dont do many miles annualy as i did before retiring i put very little miliage on the car,but this wont make much difference to the service cost as the service is annuel.i could do future servicing myself, once the warranty runs out,but the old bones dont like crawling about the car as they once did.i am going to see if i can improve on the deal when take it in on monday.when your a pension every penny counts.just checked fridays euro lottery, got 2 main numbers and 1 star number, great, i am going to be the last of the big spenders.any advice what to do with £6.70.

Just take into account that "cheap" online service plans include only checks and oil renewal (better oil extra cost). Replacing pollen filter, brake fluid, spark plugs etc. often costs extra.

Hi,

ref your service plan, I assume its a main dealer?

if so, it seems a tad expensive! I have a 57 plate Auris Sr180, my local dealer offered me a 3 year service plan either cash or monthly (% free) total cost = £418.18 (£13.08 monthly % free) x 31 months, 1st month = £13.33, I went for monthly, just had the 30k service (actual 29600) car is superb, great service from RMB Darlington, a happy chappie.

Best wishes Paul, ps you could put your £6.70 in the fuel tank, it might get you another 1/4 mile down the road at the current price per litre!!

Hi Paul Mack,

question- is you plan for 30-40-50k or 40-50-60k services as there is a significant difference.

Thanks

Got it in one! I think that Paul Mack's £400 gets him 2 minor services & 1 Major service

My 3yr service plan (2 major & 1 minor) cost £612.

I assume this price will come down as you are providing your own oil?

they have reduced the plan cost (2 major 1 minor yes main dealer)from £617.85 of which they will pay first £25 to £485.21 a reduction of £132.73.remember i still have to buy the oil.asked about including brake fluid change, they agreed. asked about includind the MOT,they didnt agree.i said will think about, but only ring them if i take up offer.

they may or may not change their minds, but not bothered very much.have got a good indendent garage localy.

thanks for advice to all.

Hi Guys,

firstly sorry for late reply, work, work etc!!

Good points raised ref service intervals, mine is for 30k - 40k - 50k, so yes, I do agree, will make a difference.

All said, I cannot be a*sed to troll the car around so happy to stay with RMB Toyota Darlington and leave it all to them to get sorted.

Glad to see however that they have reduced the price, another big saving!!!

Best wishes

Paul
