30K Service - Oakmere Toyota Northwich

Dropped off my 08 plate Yaris 1.0TR for its 30k service at Oakmere Toyota @ Northwich Cheshire.

On returning I went to the service desk and gave my details only to be accosted by a salesman who had taken the liberty to value by car and offer me a 'great deal' on a Yaris 1.0 T spirit. I listen to the waffle - 'T spirit has satnav and fog lamps', 'only £122.00 a month for 3 years' '3 years free servicing'- what did I think???

NOT A LOT!! - my car had been valued at £3600!! - the credit interest on this deal was £1100.00! and the 3 year balloon payment was £3800!! Anyone had similiar experience??

Finally I returned to the service desk and was presented the bill. I was quoted in December £95, the bill infront of me said £115. On asking the reason why the difference I was told firstly the vat increase is responsible, and secondly an increase in the price of parts! Considering the vat increase was 2.5% a £20 increase was just laughable. And considering all i had done was an oil and oil filter change I considered an increase in the price of parts to be just as laughable.

And finally I was then told that I would be receiving shortly a customer questionaire and that if I was happy with my experience today could I tick the 'excellent box' rather than just the 'good box'!!

I had my car devalued - given a rip off new car quote - told that 2.5% vat increase OR parts pricing equated to £20 increase - ask 'if I was happy' to tick the excellent box!

I cant wait for the customer questionaire to arrive in the post!!

The VAT difference would be £1.68, there was a price increase also but it would be nothing like £20 unless they wacked up the oil prices. Did you tell them you had been quoted a price? it would be reasonable to expect to pay for price increases but not £20 worth

Kingo :thumbsup;

I dont think they believed me about the £95 price i quoted. Much to my annoyance we split the difference and I paid £105. Im not happy with this and to cap it all he suggested ticking the 'excellent box'!! Ha Ha

To be honest I cannot fault the service they do - Is just the idiots that man the service desk that I annoy me. Dont mention salesman either!!

Dealers are feeling the pinch these days and will try all ways to get a few extra quid.

The salesman must have been bored, or down on his targets. They get up my nose when they give stupid p/x values. I normally tell them they are taking the ubik, as I see no reason to be polite when they have just insulted us.

Glass's guide, the official trade pricing guide, quotes a trade in price of 3,700 - 4,500 for a 2008 1.0TR with 30,000 miles on it, depending upon condition, so he wasn't far off the ballpark.

Its unfortunate, but that's what the trade values your car at as a trade-in at the moment.

You may think it should be worth a lot more, but as a starting point for negotiation, he's only £100 under the base trade in price in the trade guide and that doesn't seem to be too an unreasonable position to start negotiations.

And when I get a price for a service, I always ensure that I ask whether that's an estimate or a fixed price and note down the date and time of the call and the name of the person I spoke to, so that I can quote it back if needed.

That's just another reason why i will never take my Yaris to the dealers.

£115 for an oil & filter change is just ridiculous, then to have the cheek to say it's only worth X amount and try to sell you another car??

Not surprised you were annoyed! :ffs:

My car may only be worth in the region of £3,700 - £4,500 - (although peugoet offered £5000 p/x) What I object to is the valuation and credit agreement all prepared and ready for me to sign!

The problem is these 'salesmen' presume the customer is an idiot. The idea that suggesting that 3 years free servicing is a benefit when paying £1100 interest is beyond reasonable comprehension. Even the idea of being swayed by 'fog lamps' and 'satnav'

The car is 3 years old and out of warranty in March, so I will be doing future servicing myself, hopefully avoiding too many visits to Oakmere Toyota.
