How Much Should My Mr2 Cost?!

Hi guys!

Being a newbie to this forum and MR-2's i need a bit of help.

I just got what i thought was a great deal on a 1990 MR2 2.0 16v.

It has 89,000 on the clock

UK Car

New Stainless Steel exhaust full system

Great body work

only just done the cam belt

re-adjusted timing

full toyota service history

2 lady owners

everything seems fine on it

I paid £2500.

Now the reason im asking is, someone i know just bought

the turbo that was the trd special edition mkII.

It has been dyno'd at 240Bhp

Mint dark green standard body work

17" Wheels

Blitz Exhaust

£2700

Just thought i'd come to the experts on this one!!!

Sorry for the essay, any help is appreciated!

Cheers

Dave

you got a good price for your car mate. that turbo sounds dodgy - it cant be a limited edition, the limited edition was only sold during 1998 and on and only came in silver, blue and one other colour i think (not green tho!) theres a 90% chance that the turbo is a dog and something is seriously wrong with it, either that or the previous owner has no clue as to how much they are worth...

a good rev 1 or 2 turbo in excellent condition will fetch at least £3500-4100, a rev 3 or above (1993+) around £4600 at least

Phew!!!

Im happier now!hehe

Anyways! i thought it was a good buy...its insurance friendly at the mo so i can wait a while before i decide to pop in the 3SGTE engine in it.

NOW for me to introduce myself!!!

Im Dave (Rookey) from Hondacrx.co.uk

After owning a mk1 crx only to witness the corrosion that caused the end of its life i decided to upgrade to a toyota MR2. I pick it up on payday at the end of the month and am looking forward to enjoying a new "car owner" experience!

So anyway.....HI!!!

Welcome to the world of fun and occaisional madness that is MR2 ownership. I'm sure you'll enjoy your car. I plan to do the turbo swap at the end of the year myself; Can't wait! :D

They are great cars!

Definately the end of a great era of me driving them.

Time to move on to a 2. Are there many differences between the 16v and the Turbo?

erm visually no...

stats wise.. HELL YEAH!... lol

N/A: 0-60 = 7.7

Turbo: 0-60 = 5.7 or 5.2 for the later reveisions...

Turbo - Crazy oversteer moments if you're not careful.

N/A - Surprisingly controlable deliberate oversteer moments.

His whole gearbox unfortunately has now just completely packed in, the previous owner of my mates car done a great job of hiding the problem. The car is screwed now apparently, sounds like he got a well dodgy deal after all!

Coming up to the first month of me owning my N/A MR2(And i have to say...what a great month!!), are there any checks i should do to make sure everything is running correctly?

Cheers

and the smug driver - knowing he'll not be beaten my a Mondeo or "sporty" Golf ..

(also the voltmeter/boost guage is a giveaway if someone is peering in through the window)

Sorry!!

I actually meant, are there any things I should check on my NASP MR2, like looking for any faults that could possibly be hidden up at the point of sale?

Cheers
