Hi there, I currently have a mk4 T reg 4x4 hilux 2.4 td. I am looking at buying a newer hilux 03 reg 2.5 d4d, I was looking for any informaton from anybody who has or has had a mk 5 2.5 d4d pickup? What mpg would i expect with the newer model compared to my current pickup?, any problems i should look out for? Is the mk5 better or worse than mk4 in any way? I love my hilux's and have previously owned a k reg mk3, I like my current pickup but it is getting a bit rough looking and required a wee bit of welding on the chasis for its last mot so was thinking of changing it for a newer model, I would also be happier if i got better mpg as my current hilux does around 24 mpg and diesel isnt getting any cheaper. Any information would be much appritiated.

Thanks.

Calum.

i have a mk3 and we have just bought the wife a mk5, its more comfortable and quiet, not had it long to know the fuel consumption tho

the only issue i have found when i did a little research was the injectors are very noisy

as loud as tappets in some cases. as indeed was ours.

generaly a good truck

Hi

I use to have an M Reg 1994 2.8 non turbo Japanese import double cab. It lacked power and would do just under 30 mpg. I now have a 2003 2.5 D4D and have owned this for about 3 years. It has plenty of power and on a long run, will do at a steady 70 mph, I get over over 35 mpg. Around town it can range between 25 to 30 depending if you give it lots of throttle. The same goes for longer motorway trips. If you floor it, fuel consumption will drop dramatically. I have hit 90 before and it still had a bit more in it. Its comfortable and handle quite well for this type of vehicle. My one has a rear hardtop which is meant to be better for fuel economy than the open pickup. I use mine for building work as well as pleasure and if you carry heavy items, that reflects on fuel too. I have had 2 Hilux's and as TopGear proved. They are invincible. :toast:
