Hi,

My discs and pads need to be change on my Avensis T-180. Does anyone have any exprience and advise to what I should go for and the best place to get them from? I'm also going to change the brake fluid at the same time, but could do with some help as what to buy. Thinking about getting some syn fluid like Castrol from Opie Oils.

Cheers for the info. I'll take a look at them now...

I would highly recommend getting in touch with Parts King on this forum, he supplies gneuine Toyota parts, delivered usually next day at discounted prices. I use him for all service items on my Avensis, and i know im getting the proper part. Well worth checking out.

Green stuff pads are good, BUT they are more of a fast/track car pad. This is great once they are warmed up, but when the brakes are cold they are not so effective and can catch you out a bit. Once up to working temp they do stop you very well.

If you drive around sensibly then i would settle for the OEM pads as you know they do the job hot or cold.

OEM pads for mine are made by Bosche and come in a nice Toyota box. You may be able to get them cheaper direct from a Bosche dealer than a Toyota dealer.

I'm in a similar position.

As you all no doubt know braking isn't one of the Avensis T25's strong points so I'm thinking of fitting some grooved aftermarket discs from somebody like MTEC.

Would be interested to know if anybody has done this before & any feedback.

I allways use Blueprint pads and discs. Hardly any brakedust and last a lot longer than most. Had mine on for 2 years, 50000 miles and only half worn. About £25 for pads, £70 for discs.

Well after a lot of searching around on other forums and the net I found out that PAGID were very well respected along with FERODO. Had some bad feedback about RED and GREEN stuff pads etc. I was warned not to go for "drilled" disc's as they tend to crack where the holes have been placed. Dimpled are much better.

So Vented front disc's and solid rears plus pads all round came to £185 delivered from Euro car parts :yahoo:

I agree that I've seen as much negative feedback about EBC Green as positive.

Pagid is a sister company to Mintex who of course are respected as well (although feedback on forums suggest that Mintex pads can be noisy).

& I 'm planning on going grooved rather than drilled/dimpled - seems that there are fewer options available for the 2.2's than the 2.0s though. :(

The MTEC discs look very good to, especially if you go for the Black ones for the £15 more. But the cost of there discs are the same price for the Pagid pads and discs, so for me its not a cost effective option :crybaby:

There seems do be hardly any choice for the 2.2 models out there atm. Strange as there are alot of Lexus owners who use the same kit for there motors...

That sounds like a very good deal. Where did you buy them from?

Yer I've just noticed that... But I'll take a look at Blue Print to see if they do brake parts for the 2.2's

I did a bit of wheeler dealer with the guy on the phone. They arrived today, looks great quality to.

Another site I've found is "BuyPartsBy" They've got Bosch pads (front with acoustic wear warning and rear)for £19.21 and the rears for £16.36. Mintex front for £24.19 or EBC front for £15.47 and rear for £10.30!

Front disc for £15.71 each( all prices are plus VAT) But I'd already bought the PAGID parts So I could have saved even more.

Hope this helps

Ta.

I'm not necessarily trying to save money - I would rather get improved performance for the same money than pay less for the same imo lacklustre standard performance.

Just for comparison sake Kingo quoted me £272 delivered for new Toyota discs & pads all round.

I agree with on the Avensis brakes, there just not upto standard for the car. I to want to improve the braking performance an hopefuly the Pagid will do this.

Now thats not to bad a price from Kingo I must say. But arn't the Toyota discs and pads supplied from Bosch? In which case you should be able to buy them a lot cheaper?

Thats a very good price for the pads  I think I might buy some to see what difference (if any) there is between the Pagid and the Bosch...
