What Discs And Pads?...

looking at the site further I'm not sure that they are Bosch brand pads so much as for Bosch style calipers so I would confirm first.

For info for anybody checking the forum at a later date Black Diamond have just started making upgrade discs & pads for the 2.2 Avensis (discs available now, pads they reckon in 2-3 weeks).

List pricing as follows (but you may be able to get a discount from a BD dealer):

"Thank you for your enquiry, the parts you require are listed below with RRP prices.

Combi (drilled & grooved) Drilled 12 Groove

Front Discs KBD1406 £133.64 £137.87 £125.18

Rear Discs KBD1571 £153.46 £157.69 £145.00

Front Pads PP 648 £39.51

Rear Pads PP682 £37.68

These prices do not include delivery or VAT."

Nitrac also can do Avensis 2.2 discs but they are even dearer (I've seen it suggested that they use BD discs but with their own treatments).

Thats a good heads up on the Black Diamond's. Wish I'd known about them before I'd bought the Pagids. I went on a few web sites for the Diamond discs and pads, but they were all only showing the 2.0D-4D.

If you get some lets us know how you get on with them. I'm putting mine on tomorrow. Just hope there better than the ones I've got on there now

slightly unexpected turn of events - car flew through it's 40K service, even the discs & pads got ticks in the green box rather than amber or red.

Means that I can take a bit more time over things.

Btw in case anybody is interested the codes for Ferodo Premier pads for the 2.2. D4D are FDB1648 & FDB1649 - £65 for both sets delivered courtesy of eBay.

Thats great news that the car when okay on the service. Well my front and rear disk hubs have been sprayed metalic black ready to go on the car tomorrow morning. I use Halfords very high temperature spray on them and they look fab I must say. Just hoping the weather stays fine and its not to cold.

got any pics?

I'm trying to decide whether to paint my calipers black or silver.

Also looking forward to feedback on how you feel the new discs & pads compare to when your oem were new (obviously expect the new setup to be better than the worn).

Well the front ones went on very easy. But when I took the rear discs off (had to use 2 M8 bolts to get them off) I found that the inner parking brake shoe lining came off in my hand! Not very good, so I had to go buy a new set of those.

And to top it off the shoe hold down spring(that holds the shoes to the back plate) was completly Fu***d! So after lots of serching about on the net and the local factors, and going to see some guys at Kwick-fit. I found out that you could only buy this 10p spring in a whole kit from the main dealer, at a cost of £44.44 :censor:

So while I waited for the parts to come I changed the Gearbox oil (used Silkolene Pro 75 full-synthetic ester racing oil) and put a new EGR valve on and fuel filter.

I'm thinking of painting the calipers to. I've got some red paint left over from when I did my Audi A6 3.2, but I think that maybe the metalic black paint I used for the hubs would look alot better.

As soon as I've done it all I'll try and post some pic's on here

Green stuff apparently are good. Try to look on internet or eurocarparts got them.

Cheers for the info. I'll take a look at them now...

I would highly recommend getting in touch with Parts King on this forum, he supplies gneuine Toyota parts, delivered usually next day at discounted prices. I use him for all service items on my Avensis, and i know im getting the proper part. Well worth checking out.

I use the EBC Black after failing to be able to get green stuff (which I still like but need a few stops to work properly on a road car). Black are badged as a premium street pad and work as well/better than OEM replacement parts - I find they work very well, good bite, last well and not too prone to fade.

finally got around to ordering my discs - in the meantime MTEC had dropped their prices a bit so I went for the Black Edition :)

Front & rears are costing £170 delivered (£145 if not Black Edition) & I've gone for plain grooved.

In case anyone is searching the forum in the future Camskill, CRN, The Brake Depot, Black Diamond & Nitrac all told me that they could do grooved etc. discs for the 2.2 Avensis. National also do at least a front performance disc for them.

How did you get on with the MTEC discs? I've had a nighmare with the Pagid ones I've bought? So I've ordered MTEC black discs all round and there pads to. £215 all in with the delivery. Just hoping now that they fit the car unlike the Pagid :censor: ones!!!

well, pads & discs being very well bedded by now I thought that I would give them a serious test today just for comparisons-sake.

& the result is that there is no comparison - the MTEC grooved disc/Ferodo Premier pad combo imo has both better feel/feedback when used lightly than the Toyota oem combo & if you really need to stop in a hurry they are massively better.

The MTEC disc's are so much better in my view to the original ones that were on the car! But the Mintex pads that I've got create a lot of brown brake dust which isn't that good. I'll be looking at the Ferodo pads next time.
