Hemi / Clutch

I have been following the clutch treads with interest as I suspect I will be doing the job soon. HEMI I've read and reread your post. Is your SMF a Blueprint part, as when I inquired to-day,I was told they only do a DMF at the moment.

Am I right in thinking the DMF/clutch in my car is on its way out as when changing to 5th gear below 2000 RPM its as if I need to change back to 4th. Does not happen everytime but is worse when changing quick from 4th to 5th. I don't know the history of the car, it's done 108000 miles.

I've been keeping an eye on these threads as well steve. My clutch started to vibrate quite bady when setting off whilst all the mechanicals are cold but has always been fine once warm. I temporarily solved the problem by deliberately abusing the clutch for a bit and all was well however the vibes when cold appear to be on the way back. I'm hoping it might just be some sort of contamination on the clutch plate(s?) but I do fear the worst.

Makes me wish I'd bought the petrol version to be honest - the savings in fuel with the diesel look as if they are going to be far outweighed by the costs of replacing the clutch for many people.

If mine lets go completely I would be tempted to look at a solid flywheel jobbie but I don't want a rubbish one.

No it doesn't cause a lack of power. It often starts with a light vibration and a hollow rumble that can be just heard as the revs die when changing gear. It then tends to progress to more of a vibration and and can sound like the baffles have gone in the exhaust. The next is a lot of jingling and metallic rattles nearer to failure.

Thanks but not really a power loss. Accelerates well from low RPM in 5th, just sounds like needs to change to 4th when doing 40 - 50 mph. I think I have answered my own question just don't want to admit it.

There is quite a big jump from 4th to 5th. It won't lug quite as freely if you change up too soon.

sorry I haven't replied as yet.I've been busy.Yes the SMF I got was a Blueprint,if you have a General Traffic shop near you try them (that's where I got mine from)my old DMF went all of a sudden, the wife was driving it (well it is hers, lol) and she said all of a sudden it felt like the gearbox was going to explode,so when I got home I had a go in the drive and the noise was horrific and the pedal felt like a brake pedal when the ABS kicks in but I drove it to work the next day ok.Now I have the SMF in it it drives weay better, pulls from lower speeds even in higher gears,it will sit at 40 in 5th and pull away,it could never do that before and it also tows way better (not that I do much towing)
