Audio Questions

I was wondering if anyone could provide some answers about replacing OEM Audio Equipment. I just bought my Corolla 3 days ago. Im looking to replace the front Speakers, the tweeters, and the rear Speakers as well as the receiver. My first question is:

Is it possible to fit a CD receiver and a Equalizer where the OEM receiver is located?

Second Question: What speaker size will fit in the front door as well as the tweeters?

Third Question: Has anyone installed a CD Changer in the glove box? Will one fit there?

If anyone has some of these answers, please let me know. Any recommendations for equipment would be helpful to. Thanks guys

Hi rickjames

What Corolla do you have? New model or older?

I've got an install in my Corolla T-Spirit '02 model.

I've changed the OEM H/U for a DIN size unit, front Speakers (both door and tweeters) installed the CD Changer under front passenger seat, custom FibreGlass amp and sub enclosures with full cabling for the whole system.

To answer some of your questions...

1: You might have problems having both CD H/U & Equalizer in the OEM slot, depending on your corolla age..

2: 4" will fit with a spacer ring as will a 5 1/4" speaker, but might have a push at gettting a 6" or bigger in.

3: The changer that i got, fitted in the glove box, but might have probs securing it down, without making a few holes, but i think a 12 disc changer won't fit in.

Have a look at my signature links, see if this helps you with it.

Any other question, feel free to post

I also have a query similar to this topic...

Does the OEM head unit have phono line outputs and a remote output (in order to install an external amplifier)?

Does anyone have an idea of the subwoofer connection under the seat?

Hi aaa_d98

This is where i got the facial adaptor from for my car. (link below)

It was sent over from the USA and arrived within about week - 10days

The remote on my steering wheel is not used, cause i've yet to find anyone who sells an adaptor for it and i don't think my H/U would work with it, but i'll keep looking for one

Hi dwardu

The OEM H/U doesn't have any pre-outs on the back of it.

I don't think there was any wires under the seat when i last looked, but it's been a while since i looked under there :(

I've yet to find anyone who's got one, but i'm sure someone out there must have one

I am working on the hifi for my CTS to the time. I will replace the Speakers in the front to a Boston Pro 6.5 (16 cm) and in the rear to a Focal coax (13 cm). The bassspeaker will be fitted like man-bing did. The amps will be placed in the space of the reservetire. Because I didn´t want to loose the steering wheel controler and my CTS have the sat-navisystems i didn´t want to change the headunit so I used two hi-->low-converters to get a lineout-signal out of the original headunit. It´s the easyest way to connect externel amps to the original headunit.

Regards, Eric

Thanks a lot man. I saw your subwoofer and amplifier very nicely fitted looks like it's built in or should I say factory fitted. Where did you have it fitted and how much it cost you. Can you please let me know once you've found adaptor for steering wheel. Cheers!

Looks a bit pricy from that eBay sale

I think mine only cost something like £21 all in, including posting from the States.

Hi aaa_d98

Yes, the install is impressive, didn't want to lost too much boot space, as i use it alot.

If you know about fibreglass, use it, if not learn, it's very messy, time-consuming, and just about every word under the sun fits for when it goes wrong, like i did, but i think it leaves a better look at the end, and being stealth install, you be hard pushed to notice it, when the boots open, instead of a big sub box sitting proud from the back seats.

The install price... not much change from just over a £1000!!!:help::eek: but for what you can see, it's money well spent

If you need any more info about the install, let me know..
