HI, JUST BOUGHT A RAV4 MAX SPECIAL EDITION 1996 P REG. HAD A FRONT END PRANG BUT REPAIRABLE. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS ALL FINE BUT WHEN OUR MECHANIC FRIEND WENT TO PICK IT UP THE Battery WAS DEAD SO REPLACED IT, INCORRECTLY AT FIRST SHORTING THE LIVE WIRE ON THE CAR AGAINST THE NEGATIVE ON THE Battery. I NOW HAVE NO WINDSCREEN WIPERS FRONT OR REAR, HEATER, STEREO, INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS, CIG LIGHTER, CENTRAL LOCKING, ELECTRIC MIRRORS AND WINDOWS ALSO NO LONGER WORK! HELP, WE HOPE ITS A RELAY BUT WORRIED IT COULD BE SOMETHING MUCH WORSE. CAN ANY HELP?

Could have blown one of the bigger fuses / relays in engine bay that feeds these devices.

Should just be a simple matter of checking between manuals / diagrams which fuses are ehat and doing a visual inspection on them.

Main fuse / relay box is in front of the Battery.

Worst case scenario is a new relay from Toyota.

Check the fuses in the front of the engine bay...

also there are fuses in the passenger footwell left hand side, and I think also in the drivers footwell on the right hand side.

I'd guess at afuse or two rather than a relay unless you fried it.

had a look on line at other posts from Toyota Rav owners and came across a gentleman who's daughter had had the same problem. Turns out it was the 100amp fuse located under the fuse box in the engine bay.

thank god for the internet and thankyou to all you car owners who take the time to post online your problem and solution. you have save my husband a heap of investigative work.
