I have ordered an elm 327 diagnostic cable with scantool version 1.3A, it should be here in next 2 days and i was wondering if anyone could give me hints on best way to use it or any tips as to get the most out of it as i have never used one before. Thanks, Scott.

the scan too software is a tad limited but it can read and reset codes and also give a sensor readout as well.

once you have the elm device connected to your laptop simply connect to the car and turn on the ignition and then click read codes. fairly straight forward.

you can get better software for the elm device but it tends to be expensive

I feel you need a software called OBD-II Software for elm327, in-order to communicate with the car PC. once you install it rest methods are simple. I am not aware whether there are other softwares available other than OBD-II.
