Frost On Windscreen Inside The Car

In frosty conditions, excessive air inside my Avensis T3-S causes the front windscreen to have as much frost on it INSIDE the car, as there is outside. The car had its 60,000 miles service yesterday, 20 January, carried out by an experienced Toyota mechanic who checked and confirmed there is no water in the car, including the boot, and the air-conditioning filter is clear. Please let me know what may be the cause of the problem. Thanks.

Hi Mike, I find it helps if I don't have the air recirculating inside the car and use the air-con even in winter, even then the rear hatchback glass still freeezes inside at times.

Put simply the cause of the problem is you

Not being funny mate, but if you didnt breathe in the car there would be no condensarion to freeze.

So, what to do about it....

Use A/C ALL the time, keep the airflow on exterior, ie, not on recirc... This will help, but I'm afraid modern cars are pretty airtight and the slightest dampness inside, from wet shoes to your and passengers breath wont help. Just hope spring comes early!!!

Thanks, Pete. I don't use the air recirculation or air-con (in winter) but I'll try the air-con. Someone else said it could be the pollen filter and I'll get that checked. Regards, Mike

Thanks, Jan&tone. I'll stop breathing. I've been thinking about that for some time and my wife will be delighted!

Regards

Mike

P.S. Someone suggested it could be the pollen filter but maybe he just wants to keep me alive!

Pollen filter is usually a good place to look, but as mentioned, the Aircon should help to remove the moisture. I'm not sure about the Avensis, but in my Auris the aircon is turned on automatically when i press the windscreen demist button.

Another thing you could try is 'Rainex' anti fog. Its available in Halfords and is supposed to repel any moisture from the screen so they don't steam up, and in your case freeze.

You have head the nail on the head  I have been driving for a while wearing a snorkel and mask with the snorkel ducted to the outside.... it works fine until a fly gets into the snorkel but what the heck, it is all protein ;)

So Jan&tone.... if you see a driver wearing a snorkel in the S Essex area can you give me a wave

Tesco as well, I bought some before Christmas and it hasn`t been much of a success because the windows although clearish are wet and so still freeze (not very long lasting either)

Rain X will not stop condensation. It will tend to make the moisture form into large globules. It is handy on the outside of the windscreen if your wipers pack up. Use the aircon or have some form of ventilation always. My screens, particularly the rear freeze on the inside when left overnight & most vehicles will do this. Keep using the schnorkel!!

If you re-read my post, you will see that i wrote 'Rainex ANTI FOG' which is for the INSIDE of the window.
