Hi everyone,

I've looked about but couldnt find a suitable post so here goes.

56 plate Plus

Water is coming in the boot,

looking in the boot there is a little puddle of water on the left side which will flow forwards to the rear near side edge of the rear seat base and is making it a little mouldy.

Ive cleaned the seat base and cheacked thoroughly aroung the boot and I just cannot see where the water is coming in from.

If anybody knows where it would be coming in from and how to cure the leak then I really would appreciate the advice.

As a side not there is no water inside anywhere else and all carpets etc are dry.

Kind Regards Zaffy.

Common place seems to be the top brake light cluster as the seal around it and gromets fail. The water drips down the sides and into the boot and spare wheel well. Toyota won't replace the seals and gromets separately, its a whole brake light replacement costing upwards of £200! I recommend using a tube of sealant around the old seals in the brake light!

As jjj_aygo mentioned the upper brake light is probably the cause, easiest way to check is to remove the upper brake light (2 screws) look inside the roof with a torch and if it has leaked you will see probably 2 marks where the water has been dripping down into your boot space. Mine was actually leaking from this light and now it is bone dry, i took the whole light off , removed the awful thin foam seal and fitted another thicker self (approx 3mm) and bought 2 new grommits from the main dealer (they do sell them separately) just a word of caution the old grommits are not easy to get out but with a bit of effort they do come out in the end. Its just a case of pushing in the 2 new grommits into the roof and refitting the light. The seal i bought was a simple sheet of self adhesive foam seal from eBay and i cut the shape out for the light it cost about £2.50 delivered and the grommits cost another £3 or so with the vat....Hope this helps.....Regards Colin

My 2005 Aygo has exactly the same leak, with the boot carpet being really wet (as the padding on the base absorbs the water very well!), but only on the left hand side of the boot. The boot carpet is currently drying out in my garage!

The forums and my helpful local Toyota dealer advised that it was going to be the high level brake light, rear lights or behind the rear bumper (something about a modified 'flap').

With the help of someone else I clambered into the car with the rear seats down and got them to pour a jug of water just over the high level 3rd brake light. Initially nothing, but suddenly a stream of water appears from behind the anthracite trim (We always park with the car on a kerb, so it naturally leans to the left hand side). I've unscrewed the brake light and found the foam gasket perished and certainly not making a good seal.

Welshviking - do you know what I need to ask for with the grommets at my Toyota dealer (do you have a part number)? Also, I want to get the right foam to redo the gasket, rather than just sticking sealant over the perished gasket - did you have any links to the Ebayer you used?

Thanks

Had the same happen in my 60 plate Aygo black. It was a leak from the rear light cluster which was fixed under warranty. Takes two days as they have to put water on it to find the leak to fix and the second day to dry it out. Seems a common problem.

Learnt an interesting fact today at the dealership.

I took my GO back in because the boot is very hard to shut (the last Aygo was a bit uncomfortable to shut, this one we have to slam pretty hard), I just wanted them to make sure it was meant to be that difficult, and not that something was wrong.

Anyway they said that Toyota have moved the latch further in to make the boot shut further in, to deal with a leaking boot problem they've been experiencing with the Aygos. They said they'd moved mine back a bit for me, but I haven't tested it, I hate shutting the tailgate on my Aygo, I feel like I'm being cruel to it hehe

Just something I thought I'd share, might help a few leaky aygos to get fixed, hopefully.

Thankyou everyone for your comments and advice, its much appreciated.

I will check this out at the weekend and report back though need to add that the rest of the boot is dry, including the spare wheelwell.

I did poor lots of water over the near side rear light cluster but no problems there however I will check the high level brake light at the weekend,

Regards Zaffy.
