Hi this is my first post as I could really do with some help, I have a 1998 rav4 auto that keeps stalling, cutting out after the car reaches normal running temperature, I put it in drive and it has no problem when im steadily driving however when I come to a junction , the revs just drop down to tick over and then it just dies on me, any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks Jim

hi Jim

I would check with the MAF sensor + clean the throttle.

Hi thanks for the help Igor, However I have changed the throttle housing and the maf sensor but there is no change, I deal in rav4`s and this is one of only two problems that has me scratching my head, I have all the spare parts in stock so swopping items is not a problem, many thanks and thanks for your reply

OK even though you changed throttle -- the position of the flap must be co-ordinated with gas pedal sensor - because the servo motor on the throttle gets a command from this gas pedal sensor and position of the flap is important.

I could be thinking of another older car I had, (too dark to check at moment),

Is there not an an adjustable screw at the throttle spring so that the revs dont drop too much.

Im just thinking if its been replaced as part of the throttle body it would have been set up for another Rav (even though same engine).

PS. Another "Giant" owner, get some pics up!

Hi Smiler AS , thanks for the info, I tried the ajduster screws and there are two of them however I`m going to try cleaning out the throttle housing in the morning and adding some injector cleaner, many thanks Jim

I had what sounds like the same problem, but on a Range Rover... Once the engine was warm and i slowed down for a junction or slow corner it would stall, so it ended up whereby I was driving and giving it extra revs whenever I had to slow down. Not good.

Turned out it was the ECU on the blink and they're not cheap! So I hope it's not that, but keep it in the back of your mind if all else fails...

This could well be the problem , I deal in Ravs and I may well have the correct ecu so I will have a good look in my parts store, many thanks Jim
