Engine Upgrade

As future Auris HSD-owner (delivery end of March), I wonder about the following :

The new Lexus CT200h features the same engine as the Prius/Auris HSD, only slightly adapted.

Then how comes that this lexus has much better acceleration (0 - 100 in 10.3 sec) with no negative consequenses to the consumption.

If this is the result of the small changes to the engine, then why doesn't Toyota apply these changes to the engine fit in the Prius/Auris?

Can it be that this is because they want the more expensive Lexus to perform better than the others...

(Sorry for any mistakes to the Englisch language, its not my mother tongue)

Thanks for any reactioin!

0 -100? If that's kph then it isn't much different to the Prius. I did in fact read an early review of the CT200h that complained about the lack of performance.

Incidentally the English is fine.

It is pretty much the exact same car. The suspension is different and it's not quite as aerodynamic so the ct200h should be worse for economy. The 0-62mph/100kmh is the same? The Prius is 10.4 seconds which is pretty much near as damn it the same.

Maybe there are very slight weight differences and differences in how they were measured. The ct200h looks much nicer and more finished but isn't cheap.

Your call.

The official "Toyota Belgium"-brochure I received from the dealer states 0 - 100 Km/H in 11.4 sec (Auris).

Over a second difference with the same engine is quiet a big difference to my opinion.

(some internet-sites even give a figure of less than 10 sec for the Lexus)

Just looked at the Toyota UK website for the Auris hsd and sure enough the 0-62mph/100kmh is 11.4 seconds! Maybe the car is heavy, maybe there is more drag on the tyres etc. It is odd that the Prius and the ct200h are both 1 second quicker.

Anyone else got an idea?

If there was more drag or if the vehicle is heavier, then the consumption should be higher as well I think, but it isn't, so...
